    I thought the song was beautiful and very poignant for this day and age. I have been having a rough year. I have to admit I became a little emotional while listening to it. I like the idea of recording the song and let folks download for money and have the proceeds go to a charity to help folks during this difficult time.

    Glad to hear everyone is opening up and sticking together during these difficult times. I’m doing mental gymnastics with all the changes that are affecting the ones in my life. I hope you all find some peace. That show last night gave me that momentary escape I needed and I hope there is more along the way from other artists.

    Put that capo on the 4th fret of the guitar. Zoom in on that YouTube video as it’s the perfect angle to look at what Dave’s playing.

    Haven’t seen a guitar tab yet, but it’s a fun one to play around with for sure.

    An artist with recurring themes/motifs/styles in their work. That pretty much applies to every great musician that's ever existed. The man has written close to 200 songs I would guess, things like that tend to happen.

    I love this song,especially the lyric "dance with me like the time we got is borrowed". This sounds as if it could have been placed on some devil. Dave is a better writer when writing from a darker place, it just seems he's more hesitant to put those songs out these days.

    There's a difference between idolizing someone, and respecting the vast quality of their work. Saying "Dave ran out of ideas" implies that he sucks now, which I just don't think is true. You have multiple people on these boards saying that Windows made them cry last night. To be writing songs for 30 years, and to still be able to write songs that touch people is an amazing accomplishment.

    The attacks on SeanMH aside, which are 1000% unwarranted, this is a really interesting topic. Recurring themes (rather than rehashed or repetitive ideas) are something that I really appreciate about prolific songwriters and authors and give me a satisfying sense of a connected universe/body of work.

    Andrew Bird, for random example, does this very deliberately and revisits phrases and imagery all the time from record to record. It's an evolution of a thought, re-contextualizing it to now mean something slightly different. To me, they're easter eggs referencing their own back catalog and it's really cool when I can pick up on it in real-time.

    The connection between "Finger Back" and "Harmony Hall" by Vampire Weekend comes to mind, as well ("I don't wanna live like this, but I don't wanna die"). Not to mention the greats (to me) like Robert Hunter of the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan, who frequently utilize the same words, phrases, and imagery in slightly different ways.

    The point is, to outright dismiss recurring themes or phrases as lazy or perfunctory feels unfair to the writer. Obviously we don't know Dave's intent, for sure, but let's give him a little more credit for his presumed genius rather than lambasting him for phoning it in.

    Until he throws in another goddam "baby" or "belly jelly" into the mix, and then I'm out for good
