Unless MSG is really the last stop and the album comes out mid November, it’s either December or not coming this year…

Yes, it was from the Sirius interview, and yes, it did take place immediately before the show (unless they were lying during the interviews).

Not looking forward to more delays, while being fully aware that we are owed nothing.

One of the aspects that I've not understood about DMB and their approach to songs is why the studio versions set an arrangement in stone. I get that it's easier for everyone to have a single known arrangement, but that regular song tweaking and exploration can be so cool. That said, this not a standard practice for 99% of the artists/bands out there, it's just been a historically cool part of DMB when they are working on material and/or have not recorded and released a "definitive" studio version of a tune, e.g.: JTR, aDSR, Break Free, Sugar Will, etc.

    Re: New Album Coming Soon?

It makes more sense to use a new album to promote a tour and sell tickets. I believe they'll play a few new songs this summer. Then release the single this November on the internet/Spotify along with the news of the album's release date in January 2022. While in NY for the MSG shows they'll promote the single and forthcoming album on the late-night talk shows. The album will be released to coincide with the announcement of the 2022 Summer Tour in January. That's what I would do if I was in charge of marketing the band's album and tour...

That's disappointing for sure, but I'm glad we have a better idea of what to expect. Thanks Scott. Hopefully it's at least officially announced later this year.

    Re: New Album Coming Soon?

Tying albums and tours together is really no longer necessary. Most folks don't buy albums/CDs, it's mostly streaming/subscription services. Depending upon the artist, a large amount of tickets are sold without the need to release or promote anything...DMB is definitely one of those artists.

That said, I did hope this 30th anniversary tour would be more focused on the existing catalog and a few of the new/in-progress tunes here and there. Next summer can definitely be more focused on featuring the new music. I do, however, wish we could get the new music far sooner than later.

A few months ago on Sirius, Dave said "Walk Around the Moon" was one of the best songs he's ever written; I doubt he plans to make any major changes to it. I think people who expect DM to add jam sections to WATM are going to be disappointed. Modern DMB has a propensity to lengthen out ending jams (e.g. Lying in the Hands of God, You Might Die Trying, Bayou, etc.) but it's been a very long time since Dave went back and radically altered a song to add bridges and solo sections that weren't present when the song debuted. The song's ending could get more dynamic but there's no way Dave is going to add a solo after the first verse or add a 7 minute jam in the middle of the song for the studio version.

WATM is basically 6 minutes with the outro as is right now. Not sure the studio cut needs to be longer.

It would be bananas to me for an album that was essentially done months ago to not come out until the very end of this year or early next year. Would remind me of how music was distributed 15-30 years ago.

Why talk about the new album on Sirius if it’s not going to be out until next year? Dumb. If they literally don’t have plans for this year then or very early next year then I think the chances are highly increased it’ll be delayed again like they always do.

They did release Come Tomorrow during the tour. Though we had official announcement, and it was a weird record with a lot of shit we already heard. Just seems mind bogglingly slow to me. Take the time to make the record, not to release the finished work they're excited about.

It is a good point, that they talked about it a lot in the Sirius interviews. Late year or next year doesn't seem to make sense, but I guess nothing would really surprise me anymore.

Yeah, all the members were hyping up the album in those interviews. It's hard to imagine that it won't come out this year based on that. It doesn't make sense to talk about it so much if it is so far out. Dave even said we might get the album in a few months. He definitely sounded unsure though.

This band is a joke honestly. Never seen another artist struggle to get an album out like they do. If the music quality made it worth the wait I wouldn’t be judging. But they made us wait painfully long for Come Tomorrow and that record was a mess from a production standpoint, didn’t sound like an album. I’m a big Matt Nathanson fan and he’s the only other artist that comes to mind. But different story: he has a fraction of the fan base and ticket selling capacity…and he always makes the wait worth it because he’s a perfectionist

An album in November or December? That seems so odd. Why would Buddy be recording backup vocals back stage on opening night, especially when they have a week long break 8 days after the starts? What’s the rush? Who knows.

I have every single LT and live release officially put on CD or through DMBLive to listen to. I’m patient. I’ll wait for that Warehouse announcement that they have a album coming out soonish.

I missed this tidbit. where did this come from?

but also announcing an album is nearly done in october and releasing over a year later does make me scratch my head. pretty much on that schedule no matter what at this point though. a year is starting to feel early .....

Dave said it during pre show Sirius interview last Friday. I’m really not complaining just making a small point. When we get it, we get it. I just don’t understand the tidbits of info we have. If album is nov/dec or later, what’s the rush.

Let me clarify that while I may have some details here and there, I have no idea when the album will be released. There’s no “changing last minute” at this point or “unexpected delays” with it etc. I can also guarantee you that most of the band has no clue when the album will be out, or even what stage it’s actually truly in. That’s just how it works sometimes.

Buddy recording a vocal may be a big nothingburger. That stuff happens with albums all the time and can be added in the blink of an eye. While it was news to me that they’d be adding vocals at the stage I have been told they’re in, it’s not overly shocking.

I definitely selfishly say don’t rush it out for the tour bc I don’t want an album tour this year haha

Yes Bruce that is a great point. Let's hold off as long as we can on an album because these setlists are ridiculously good right now. They remind me of 2013, a modern day version of that year. The longer we can wait for an announcement/single/album release date, the better IMO. Announce it at the end of the summer tour for the fall/winter. Let's ride this summer out with these sets.... I don't need an album tour yet (meaning this summer).

I’d love for them to be realizing these songs can be more than what they recorded piecemeal and plan on having a more traditional go at them later when things are more normal.

I thought I heard almost a laugh or sign of disbelief from Dave at Jeff’s sax run coming back from the interlude on the first nights OATB. Maybe Dave is thinking he needs to let these guys be a little looser than what he originally planned on the album.

    Wishful thinking?

No one announced the album was nearly done in October. I think people read too much into what Dave said then, coupled with "insider" info (some of which was BS). For reference, here's exactly what Dave said during the session with Carter (right before Grey Street):

    Quote:
You know we have a surprise for you, because Carter and I have been hanging out, everybody. Um, uh, on the side...makin' noises together (Carter: HEY!) And we are very excited to show you them, that's why we happen to be here today, socially distanced, big glass doors between us and whatnot.
    Then later, after Gravedigger:

    Quote:
Hey everybody, we're...you know...this is the upside down world, right? And, uh...and...Carter and I have been makin' some music together, and everyone's been coming in, and we're been trying to social distance, and we've been having fun.
That's the extent of what he said about the state of things at that time.

They didn't record them piecemeal though. Dave wrote during the pandemic, worked in studio with Rob Evans. Brought Carter in early to develop songs. Then Stefan, then the rest...and they made an album.

Yeahhhh I just don't buy that all of those interviews were actually happening on opening night.
