They are almost 2 different songs. As far as WAYG goes, I don't really get the hate for it. It's a simple love song that unfortunately gets the "single" treatment from hardcores.

Actually, more so than the fact that it was a single, is that people don't like to hear it live because it doesn't bring "teh energeeezz!!" and/or there are better songs that could have taken it's place. Neither of which are reasons why the song is "bad", more like "misused".

I dig WAYG for what it is. I've said before, maybe in the same way that I like ADSR. There's nothing extraordinary about either of them; they're just pretty, simple, little songs.

LWS along with Crash are my favorite albums, LWS because of how deep it is and Raven may be a mess but I think Raven sounds better as a mess.

Busted Stuff, Grey Street, and Raven are better on BS.

Big Eyed Fish on tLWS is just amazing. Listen to Roi in the 2nd and 3rd chorus'. He is just amazing there. You don't even hear him during the chorus on BS. I can't get over how much better this song is on tLWS. (I just discovered this today which is why I'm posting here).

    Welcome aboard. You're healed!

Listen to Boyd's part near the end of B(O)EF, as well. Hauntingly beautiful. It's a Roi/Boyd turkey shoot.

Most songs are better on LWS. But I prefer the BS versions of Bartender, Raven and Grace. Grey Street is great on both but I like the lyrics on LWS better. Also BS has YNK, one of my favorite songs.

Ah, yes, YKN is one of the greats. Monkey Man, JTR and SUAD together may beat YNK though.

Maybe. Monkey Man doesn't do much for me though. JTR and SUAD are top 30 live for me though.

Is YNK on the Lillywhite sessions? maybe I just don't have then.
But overall the Lillywhite Session blows Busted Stuff out of the water, except for grey street and raven, which were unfinished (probably stated earlier, I didn't read the other responses)

Just think about it this way...

Would Steve Lillywhite devote 7(+) minutes to a song if that song sucked? (laughable) Nope. The man knows his music. All the Monkey Man haters really just don't "get it," I guess. Or don't give it a fair chance because they don't consider it "official."

lol. And I guess that's fine for them. I mean, whatever works. But it's an epic 7 minutes of goodness that some people are missing out on.

kind of off topic...lately we know that the band has been recording a lot of music when they go to the studio. Several songs cut from BW, Dave said they had about 30 to choose from during SU. Do we know for sure what we have as The Lillywhite Sessions are all the songs from that era? I think often about all the unheard songs we've never heard.

Bartender LWS would have been my favorite piece of music ever recorded had it been completed. I'm still incredibly bitter the band somehow had the bright idea of reworking it.

    Grace is gone (Either)
    Digging a Ditch (LS)
    Big Eyed Fish (LS)
    Raven (BS)
    Grey Street (BS)
    KKJ (BS)
    Captain (LS)

    I think that's it

Edit: For got Busted Stuff (Either)

So they're pretty much even for me, though I like You Never Know more than JTR and Monkey Man.

Well, out of the repeats from the LWS that went on BS, this is how I feel (and many will disagree with me)

    LWS:
    -Busted Stuff
    -Digging A Ditch
    -Big Eyed Fish

    BS
    -Grey Street
    -Captain (yes, that's right)
    -Bartender
    -Kit Kat Jam
    -Raven

For Grace Is Gone, I am torn. I love the vocal recording of the BS one, and I also love the Dobro. However, I really love the outro with Boyd on the LWS.

Then there are the different songs that I will rank in favorite to least favorite

    1-JTR
    2-You Never Know
    3-Monkey Man
    4-Sweet Up & Down
    5-Where Are You Going?

As for Build You A House, never really cared for that jam, not bad, but not something listen to that much.

    Busted Stuff (BS)
    Grey Street (BS)
Raven (BS by miles and miles)
    Digging a Ditch (BS)
GIG (no preference - don't really care for the song)
    KKJ (LWS)
Captain (i consider the versions to be different songs because they're so distinct & different so I cant really list which one i prefer, it all depends on what mood i'm in)
    BEF (BS)
Bartender (i wish someone could take the 'song' part of the BS version -the first 4ish minutes- and then tack on the LWS jam)

it's thus no surprise i like BS more than LWS. however, most of the song i prefer on BS i still LOVE the lws versions (Captain, BEF, Grey Street, Bartender especially)

well we know of the Build You A House snippet and also wasn't it rumored that #40 was recorded? If my memory is serving me correctly, I thought I read Dave worked on it early on in the recording stages but it didn't stick around and by the time they recorded what we know of the LWS Dave had stopped recording it in the studio. can anyone confirm/deny this?
