Let me first appreciate the Taylor reference.

Also, what a great way to kick things off. Not crazy about Break for it, but it sounds better and Break Free free and Shotgun being busted out is awesome. The band sounds tight as ever, Dave's voice sounds great.

Thanks, Danny. I really liked the the ending of Break Free.

Most Tour Opener LIBS since the infamous 2010 Hartford show. I'll take it

Actually I think there was a show since then that had 4 also. I want to say it was Vegas 2020.

Yeah looking it up now, Beach Ball, Stolen Away, SUAD, and The Riff were all liberated. Now we can get technical and say Vegas 2020 wasn't really a tour opener, but it was the first show of 2020.

The Woodlands 2018 tour opener also had 4 libs

Hartford 2010 was something special. To this day, I think opening with JTR is the most unpredictable thing Dave has ever done.

It's interesting to actually see Dave suggest that and the band discuss opening with it in this video (3:58-ish): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOiXJKgYxlM

If you all think 2010 was special then you should have been around in 03. That was the first time they ever opened a tour with some major liberations. 3 libs N1, including Last Stop, and then 5 N2, including Dreaming Tree...and they kept them coming all summer.

I don't want to be a downer, but is the fanbase actually excited about seeing these particular songs liberated, or is it simply the surprise/liberations themselves that are exciting?

For me, that whole mid-2000s era of new songs is underwhelming (the same era of new music that gave us the pile of poop that is Stand Up, mind you.) These aren't exactly great moments in the DMB catalog. I get that liberations are exciting, but I'd just assume see any other songs liberated than these.

I'd rather see Help Myself or PFWYG or Dreaming Tree or Kit Kat or even some of the left-behind stuff from Come Tomorrow (Come On, Come Tomorrow, Virginia, etc.) than these leftover unreleased songs from (what I feel to be) a mediocre era of creativity for the band.

Great set. Dave's voice on Shotgun continues to be concerning. He just can't get *there* anymore with his voice. I'm hoping it's just going to take a little time for his voice to warm up.

As for the tightness of Shotgun and Break Free --- Awesome. So much better than the versions in the mid 2010s. Pretty sweet.

It wasn't summer, but the Fall 2018 tour opener in Columbus had 3 liberations, a hardcore favorite song that had never opened a show before and 3 songs that had not appeared on the summer tour nor been played with the new iteration of the band.

Hoping some of these songs make their way to Dallas Saturday!

Especially the Break Bros and Shotgun!

I got to hear MME in Columbus last fall, but I'd love to get TOT too.

I wonder why they had a documentary crew following them around. Part of me feels it was possibly their last tour. But it wasn't, so they used the footage in 2012.

Personally I'm more excited by the setlist as a whole. Break Free and Break For It are fine, but that entire set is great from start to finish. Love You and Me earlier in the show smashed between those two monsters. Liberations or not, I just want to see solid sets like that every night.

Guessing it did by the run-time, but did Grey Street have the third verse?

Re: I don't know about you, but I'm feeling '22 (tour chat)

My thoughts from watching on couch tour:

I've never been the biggest fan of Break Free or Break For It but it was really nice seeing those songs come back (Break For It played for the first time since I was a sophomore in High School, wasn't even really into the band at that point).

Shotgun was fantastic. I had chills watching the stream, so I can only imagine how it felt for those at the venue who were chasing it. I think Dave's voice sounded better on Shotgun than it did in 2016, where he never went for the big high note. The fact that 6 years later he went for it says to me that he is much more confident in his voice. I don't get the complaining from some on here about his voice, or really anything about the liberations - the band is playing these songs for the first time in forever and they sound like they never shelved them, speaks to the incredible talent on the stage.

I actually liked the early set You and Me. Also nice to see some "late-set" songs played early (DDTW, Rapunzel, You and Me).

I thought The Only Thing sounded so much better on the acoustic, the lyric switch works for me, and it highlighted just how polished this band sounds right now. It made me like that song, which I previously felt so-so about.

Carter also continues to settle in to his playing style changes that he started making in 2018. He's picking his spots tremendously instead of smashing the drums on every song. I text my buddy throughout each show and I must have said 5 times "dude how, he's 63 years old". Never ceases to amaze me!

Fantastic show, with Shotgun being the highlight of my last few years of fandom.

I really like all 3 songs they played last night. And sure I'd love Dreaming Tree, Kit kat, Help Myself more, but it's nice to see these pop up again.

A friend invited me to this show last minute and I'm still kicking myself that I didn't go. Didn't feel like making the drive from Indy with work the next morning.

I believe the reception to the 2006 songs are really positive particularly compared to any songs on Stand Up (aside from Hello Again).

    Shotgun
    Break Free
    Idea of You
    Kill the King
    Can't Stop (divisive)

These were all well received and I'd welcome any at a show except for Can't Stop.

Yes excited about these particular songs, you can be excited about a song without it having to be in your personal top tier

I wish Dave would give 9/23/06 Shotgun a listen. That's the version that really propelled the popularity of the song. He doesn't need to yell max effort the entire song. He can just save it for the end.

    Correct.

The new lighting rig that moves is a combo of that 2010 fall one and one Phish has been using lately too.

    LOVE it

Was that when the C'Ville Spoon was? The current stage reminds me of seeing that video
