Phone Went West, Strangulation, and the last track on At Dawn make for a pretty incredible close to that album. The last couple of minutes of Strangulation are fucking brilliant.

I think Z is the more consistent album. The problem with At Dawn is that it's a couple of songs too long, in my opinion...it's just a little overstuffed. Z is a more unique album....

However, nothing beats At Dawn for long drives out in the country, that's for sure, playing "The Way That He Sings," "Bermuda Highway," "X-Mas Curtain," "Phone Went West".....that's just too good.

This is the link to the Gideon on Letterman....

This song is incredible. And honestly, I don't think there is a bad song on Z. What A Wonderful Man is a balls-out, visceral experience, and Into the Woods, I also love it's extremely weird imagery.

I love the lyrics of Into The Woods

"A Kitten On Fire. A Baby In A Blender. Both Sound As Sweet As A Night Of Surrender"

"A Good Showerhead And My Right Hand - The Two Best Lovers That I Ever Had.
Now If You Find You Agree With What I Just Said, You'd Better Find A New Love
And Let 'Em Into Your Head."

The 2nd one makes me smile everytime I hear it.

...from a SBD of some show in 2005....last show of their fall tour, I believe. Jim James opens the encore solo, first with "I Will Be There When You Die," then "Bermuda Highway." Really beautiful playings of each song, Bermuda Highway is particularly stunning. You can really feel James' emotion with the way he moans and bangs out the chords on his acoustic guitar.

Off the top of my head, Steam Engine, Lowdown, O is the one that is real, XMas Curtain, and all of Z are personal favorites

Yes, Umphrey's McGee, but that's a different story. And these guys aren't that new....I think The Tennessee Fire came out in '99....

But they sure are fuckin great.

This is where you'd be wrong. I would wonder how much one has heard their music to form a judgment like this...

To each his own, but if you'd ever seen them live, I think you might feel differently. Most exciting live show out there.

Back on topic, I really had forgotten how great It Still Moves is. It's a little more one note, and filled with more rockers than At Dawn, and it still suffers a bit from being a bit overlong. BUT, some of those songs are classics. Find me a better album opener than Mahgeetah, or how about I Will Sing You Songs, I had almost forgotten about that song. One of my favorite My Morning Jacket songs, hopefully they bring it back out next time they are touring.

Agree with the It Still Moves take

But have seem Umph live 5 times from 2003 to present, grat musicians but not my style at all. The changes piss me off, and the lyrics are boring as fuck. They do pull off some good covers though.

And so you dont think I am completly against them, I do dig the album Anchor Drops

Well....not really the best situation to see them. Those shows were very pedestrian, and the whole situation sucked for UM. Plus, DMB crowds blow. At least their 40-minute set on N1 last year was better than DMB's set....until the encore.

My Morning Jacket will be performing with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra at this year's Lollapalooza Festival, taking place in Chicago's Grant Park, August 3-5.

    ***************

Welcome to All Eyes On My Morning Jacket at Lollapalooza 2007. Make history with Current TV and My Morning Jacket by helping to create a new kind of concert video. How? By using the video from YOUR cell phone or digital camera to film a classic My Morning Jacket song at Lollapalooza. This will be a special performance as MMJ will be joined by The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. After we get everybody’s clips we will put it all together into one concert video called All Eyes On My Morning Jacket.
