All Time Show Rankings

I'm assuming there has been a thread at some point where this has been discussed? Would love to pic through and see what everyone's all time favorites are?

the story back in the day was that the chewing gum sponsored the show that night.

however, another story surfaced about 10 years ago that said the story was BS and one of the the early tape traders wrote Big League Chew on his tape and made up phony names for the songs.

so.... no one really knows for sure.

It is, however, the last known DMB show with Peter - Peter always said he didnt' know when his last show was but his keyboards fried out at the end, and it seems that Billies (the last song) does not have keys. And Doug Wannamaker guested the next night, so likely it was indeed Peter's last show.

    Re: All Time Show Rankings

Not a top show, but 5/9/01 and 7/25/01 are both recommend for a tour that was actually pretty hated.

Off the top of my head, 9/15/00 is a really good tape. Basically anything all of September of 2000 is really good.

Really hard to pick a top tape but here are some random suggestions.
    5/15/98
    8/18/98
    8/20/98
    12/3/98
    12/7/98
    5/22/99
7/16/99 (think Boyd is a bit out of tune for this show unfortunately)(still a good show tho)
    8/6/99
    8/7/99
    6/19/00 (2000 tour opener)
    7/5/00
    7/12/00
7/16/00 (first ants opener since 94)
    7/25/00
    8/1/00
    8/2/00
    9/10/00
    9/12/00
    9/13/00
    9/15/00
    12/12/00
    12/13/00
    5/9/01
    7/25/01
    5/4/02
    5/5/02
    5/18/02
    5/19/02

They’re all in the top 50 for sure. The first 4 possibly all in top 25. 12/7/98 is the best show ever IMO

I always tell everyone to listen to this show and then listen to the LiveTrax release because I truly believe they got the wrong show. The band is tighter and I prefer the set on 12/7. Also, the songs with Bela are just amazing on night 1, where I feel like they never hit that perfect moment on 12/8. The LIOG and Two Step are just unreal!

Don't get me wrong, I bought 12/8/98 LiveTrax as my first LiveTrax purchase and it is still only 1 of 2 LiveTrax I own. It is a great show. Just, when I need to pick one of the two nights to listen to, I always prefer 12/7/98!

It's gotta be something from either late May or June 2008. Roi, Rashawn, and Tim all with the band. I don't think it can be a "greatest" DMB show without Roi or Rashawn.

And Jeff Coffin is one of my top 5 all-time favorite musicians. In any era, on any instrument.

8-22/23/98 and having Herbie and the Headhunters onstage for nearly the entire time each night was unreal - i wish there was a better tape of it, because the only ones that i've ever gotten are not good.

7-12-00 with Steve Wilson on a killer, killer two step

7-10-04 hershey, what a perfect show top to bottom, made up entirely for 3 lackluster shows there in row

Just because of the material, the best DMB show had to have taken place in the year 2000 or before.

a fair take for sure, particularly 03 when they played fewer ED songs in general

Not on youtube… but there may be a Show you could Meet At that might have it available to stream.

Yeah 03 is a solid tour. Then you also have DT, Last Stop and Spoon all being played for the first time since 1999. A lot of top notch set in 2003.

    Yeah, check out this set

    06.24.2003 - Cincinnati, OH

    The Stone
    One Sweet World (Instrumental Intro)
    You Never Know
    Don’t Drink the Water
    If I Had It All
    Satellite
    The Song That Jane Likes
    Seek Up
    The Last Stop
    The Dreaming Tree

    #41
    Where Are You Going
    Stay
    The Maker ->
    Tripping Billies (Nature Intro)
    ——————————————
    I’ll Back You Up
    Two Step

The bold has to be one of the greatest three song runs, and there’s only one Everyday song (and it’s a good one in my opinion)

Not too shabby. If they played a set like this today, most people wouldn't be able to dance because of the huge boners in their pants. DMB, how we miss thee.

The bold has to be one of the greatest three song runs, and there’s only one Everyday song (and it’s a good one in my opinion)

I was at this show. On paper it looks great, but the show/energy/etc. was surprisingly underwhelming.

man. swap if i had it all for proudest monkey and this would about the most reasonable 'perfect' setlist for my tastes.
