Two Xmas orders and neither has arrived...one was supposed to arrive on the 31st and now it's back in limbo...

If I saw a arrival date of 12/31 I would have knew then and there it would not come till 1/4 at the earliest.

    Old Poster Care

    Greetings, Ants!

While cleaning the garage this weekend I came across a DMB tour poster from 2005. It's been in the tube since the day it was purchased. I took a peek at it and since it was in a sealed tube with paper there doesn't seem to be any issues with the color. Bright white boarder and ink on poster seems bright.

Could having it in the tube this long cause irreparable damage? Do you have any tips on salvaging it?

    Thanks, in advance!

Yes, absolutely. Depending on the size of the tube, there will likely be permanent roll bends in it.
Now, if you're looking to frame it and display it, they may not be visible from the front, so it may not be the end of the world. If you're looking to sell it and get max value, it will be an issue there.

First things first, get it out of the tube and flatten it out for a good long while. I would get two large pieces of styrofoam and clamp it between them (with kraft paper between it and the styrofoam). Just make sure whatever you flatten it with is uniform so that it flattens evenly.

Thank you! What if I never plan on hanging it? In your opinion, would flattening to prove no defects increase the value? Would then rolling it again to ship cause more harm?

FWIW it's in a 3 inch tube, so not super tightly rolled.

3 inch tube gives hope. Much better than a show tube.

You'll need to provide pics if you want market value, so yea, flattening it out, providing pictures of the back to show there are no roll bends and that the poster is generally in good condition will get you more value out of it than if you sold it as is, in a tube, with no pics.

Once it's flat (it's gonna take a few weeks), re-rolling it to ship won't hurt it. Just use a tube that size.

Which show is it from? I don't remember a general tour poster from that year. If there was one, I'd be interested in picking it up.

As much as I hate them, if you want to get way more money than it's worth, join one of the FB poster groups and have a bunch of suckers buy raffle tickets for it.

Edited your number out, but I can still see it as a mod. I don't want any money, but I can point you to the FB groups. Flatten that grail out first.

Appreciate it! Would putting it between cardboard (with the kraft paper on top) be similar or the same to styrofoam?

Yea, that'll work if the cardboard is thick/rigid and you clamp it tight. If it's too thin though, it may clamp down tight on the edges but not in the middle. You can also just pile some books on top of the cardboard. Even pressure is the important part.
