Yea, each player starts with 2 cards, those are the cards they have through the entire game...once the bets are laid, there is what's called a flop, where the dealer flips over 3 cards, these are called community cards. Those cards are shared by everyone. For example, if I had a Q and a 9 in my hand and the flop showed a Q, 2, 7...I would have a pair of queens. Again, bets go around and there is another flop, this time of one card. Bets again, flop of one card and that's it. Whatever you have after the final flop is your hand. There doesn't have to be any flops if everyone folds because of what they have on their first two cards. It's easy to pick up, just watch Travel channel or ESPN, they have the World Series of Poker on once in a while. They explain it all on that.
