Re: Remembering Roger - rconverse

I can't bring myself to watch the cameos yet. I haven't been on ants in years, and wish I had been so I could have contributed - or even known what was going on with Rog.

I have so many memories with Roger. From throwing a football with him (and better than him) at the STL show in '08. He was my flight buddy to Cville in '09. It was not a great flight, and poor guy was terrified. But I tried to get him to laugh through it and we made it there. Of course, all of the shit talking with football (I HATE OSU) and basketball (I'm an NCSU fan, at least we bonded over our mutual hatred of UNC). But mainly, my husband lived with him for nearly 2 years so I saw him a lot. They were SO LOUD when watching Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad. It took years for me to get into GOT because of them, and I still haven't seen much of BB because of their banter. I will never forget his laugh.

When we moved to CA we really lost touch with Roger. We would send him Christmas cards and always wonder how he was doing. We had no clue he was fighting this.

Love you Rog...

Unreal, I've been offline for a few days and just seeing this now. I knew he was battling, but it always feels sudden when someone passes.

These videos are amazing, I too hope he can fire up a browser where ever he is, listen to them, and build an excel sheet while he's doing it. I'll miss his hot takes in the prompter thread for sure.

Sad news, sincere condolences to his family. I've only really lurked lately and at most we've exchanged a posts, if that, but it feels like I knew him in a way.

Incredibly sad. True Ants OG. Never got the pleasure to meet him, but he sounded like a class guy.

Wow. This is incredibly sad to hear. I had no idea that Roger was battling cancer.

Outside of buying/selling tickets, I haven't always had the opportunity to meet/hang with a ton of folks from Ants at shows because I'm usually with my own group, but Roger was one of the few that I not only met, but took in an entire show with and we had a great time.

Alpine 2012 my friend had to bail, I ended up selling my extra ticket for each night as a single. Roger bought my N1 extra, so we met up in the lots and ended up seat buddies for the night. Super nice guy, we were relatively close in age and both from Chicago so had a decent amount in common. We had a blast at what was an epic show. At one point I broke out a J I had brought with and of course offered some to Rog. He accepted, and I don't think he was entirely ready for it because within a few minutes after taking a few puffs he had to sit back down in his seat and try to collect himself, I think his head was swimming! He was in a bit of a daze from that point on and at one point later (can't remember exactly when but it was still well before the encore if I recall) he grabbed my shoulder and just said "Man....I gotta go...thanks for the great seat." He swiftly exited the row and that was the last I saw of him.

In the grand scheme of things a very brief interaction, but certainly one I'll always remember! RIP Roger.

If anyone is interested in donating to charities on behalf of Roger, his siblings mentioned two specific charities:

    https://www.pawschicago.org/how-to-help/donate
    https://foreverhusky.org/

He had huskies and loved dogs so this makes a lot of sense.

In terms of the people who sent me money for the Cameos, the left over cash is $500. I will be splitting it between the 2 charities.

    That's a great story!
The night I hung I hung out with him he smoked some of Allison's pot and it was similar. We had to walk him to his hotel. Bars were closing anyway, so it was a good time to call it a night.

Never take drugs from my wife. There are a bunch of Ants who can attest to that.

I have literally announced it to an entire 100 person tailgate at Dallas: "Do not take drugs from/with this woman." People don't believe me, then I have pictures of them sitting comatose in the middle of a raging tailgate. Not naming a name here, but he has numbers in his name, and he's been known to get rattled.

To be fair though, the last bar Roger, Allison and I hit on Rainey had some sort of special on a jar of god knows what kind of tropical mixed drink. I went up to the bar and ordered three of them. Turns out, each one was meant to be shared by 2-3 people (no idea how they allowed me to buy 3). Roger and I housed each of ours, then helped Allison finish hers. It was a fun walk for all of us back to Roger's hotel, where Allison and I gave up and booked a rideshare home.

Unfortunately, I don't remember interacting with Roger here. I've been around a bit, too. I probably have, just half the time I'm only responding to posts and not necessarily seeing who actually made them. That all being said, I'm sorry to hear of this. Always terrible when someone dies barely middle-aged.

I just got off the phone with Roger's brother. He really wants to thank all of us for putting the Cameos together and just being overall good people for contributing. They are beginning the healing process and I know what we did is definitely helpful.

I also shared the Bree Olson video with him

I do not believe I took drugs from your wife that night. I cannot be sure, however, because I *DID* take drugs from a 70 year old hippy in San Fran, so...

I may have when I was in Austin? I don't think so though.

I do not believe I took drugs from your wife that night. I cannot be sure, however, because I *DID* take drugs from a 70 year old hippy in San Fran, so...

I may have when I was in Austin? I don't think so though.

I think I lost everyone that night. I may have been with Sean or GoCubs for a moment but then I just vaguely remember dancing like an idiot by myself.

That's great! Was totally down for the males our age in his family seeing that one, just really didn't want his mom to see it. Actually, I think she'd love the video, because it's so heart felt, but I was horrified at the thought of her Googling that name.
