Re: The NBA Thread

Yea I doubt Toronto can extend Kawhi. I could be wrong, but seems a hefty price to pay to lose to the Celtics in the playoffs

Not sure what Toronto is doing. I don't love DeRozan but I could see Poeltl thriving under Pop.

Great trade for Toronto. They get to maybe squeak into the finals this year, and get out from DeRozan’s awful self. If Kawhi stays, it’s a bonus.

I mean I understand why you trade for Leonard if you are any NBA team, but I’m not sure I would give up my own all star for a guy who is most likely a one-year rental and still doesn’t make the team a finals lock. If you are risking it all for one year, it better put you completely over-the-top and this doesn’t.

I’m reading they may have done this trade solely to flip him elsewhere. Notably to a team that San Antonio wouldn’t do business with. That Kawhi wants to go to. That’s in LA. That Balls so Hard. (I don’t believe it, but it could be interesting)

Is that even legal? Aren't there restrictions on how often a dude can be traded?

Only if you sign them as a free agent, if I remember correctly. I think you have to wait 30 days in that case. Other than that, Rasheed Wallace got traded twice in a span of 4 days once.

Also, the 1st round pick Toronto sent is protected 1-20, and becomes 2nd round picks after this year.

If Leonard actually plays to his ability this year, great. If we can somehow extend him (can't) then fantastic.

I think ultimately this will go down as a major blemish on Masai's resume. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Unless you can flip him for assets that are worth it. It’s so baffling to do this otherwise when everyone knows he doesn’t want to be there.

You can only trade a player that you just traded for by himself. You can’t package him with any other players. If you want to do that you have to wait either 30 60 or 90 days I can’t remember. Been a while since my days of getting bagels for David Stern.

In a haze I’ve been awake for 7 minutes processing this

    It’s finally over

    I’ll miss Danny

    Raptors fucked themselves

Happy to have DeMar. Sucks knowing we could’ve had Ingram and Hart but DeMar has tons more data on him and I like him as a person

Very overwhelmed person right now. Best league

Toronto was only going to compete in the East if Boston (and maybe even Philly) has injuries. If he stays, maybe he'll learn to like the team, coaching and city or you can flip him and get better cheaper talent. I don't like the San Antonio side of this trade at all. I am not sure they are making the playoffs.

    Re: The NBA Thread

I'm not sure what Toronto is doing here... Surely there is more to come. I realize they can't push through to the conference finals in recent years but they had a pretty good thing going. Fired the coach of the year after finishing first in the east, and now traded away their best player for a guy who's health is a concern, doesn't want to play there, and can leave after one year leaving Toronto with little to show from this trade.

I hope people that are critical of free agents going where they want remember this though. It's often seen as selfish and disloyal when a player does it, but a team has no loyalty to its players whatsoever. They are simply a commodity. I understand that it's a business first but when players leave a team they are labeled disloyal, whereas when a team abandons a player it is a "business decision." This is why many NBA players do not prioritize loyalty. They know they are one phone call from being shipped...
