So I tested out the areas tonight at the game where I want to take pictures tomorrow for the fireworks. I think I will have to try to bring my gorilla pod in. I have the big one with a ball head on it, should work pretty well assuming it doesn't cause problems with security.

The railing is not flat, so it's hard to hold it very still. Hopefully the gorilla pod works.

Yeah, I realized before the game that I need to use full manual mode because any of the program modes would be trying to get proper exposure for the dark ball park instead of the fireworks.

Anyway, I was able to bring my gorilla pod in and it worked about as well as it could for the situation. I think I got some usable shots. It was tough to balance shutter speed with capturing enough light to make the stadium visible without making the fireworks just a mass of light. It was a good experience though. If they do it again next year, I'll be able to do it better I think. Won't have pictures ready until next week sometime since I'm going to Alpine this weekend.

Hey ants photographers,I am a complete photo n00b and am hoping you can help me out.

I got a camera for my birthday. (Olympus x-560wp 10 megapixel) It's a relatively cheap waterproof point and shoot, which I know doesn't have nearly the capabilities that your cameras probably have. Nevertheless, i'm sure that I can still take some decent photos with it once I learn how to use it properly. I was hoping you could direct me to some free websites where I could learn the basics and eventually some more advanced techniques. I won't have the money to buy good equipment for a few more years (still in college), but really want to get into photography anyway. Any other beginner tips would be much appreciated.

Here are a few pics i've taken: http://www.flickr.com/photos/51773633@N08/
DISCLAIMER: I really have no idea what i'm doing, i've just been playing with different settings and stuff, but its a blast anyway!

    Thanks for the advice guys!

Have started taking more pics since I got my Android...caught a praying mantis the other day....on camera, not with my hands, and a hot air balloon...and a guy on a riding lawn mower playing the lottery and clearly intoxicated at a gas station. Interesting. The 5.0 MP is doing OK.

Didn't take my SLR into Philly because I wasn't interested in leaving it in a Camden parking lot, but this is one of my favorite pix I've ever taken with a P+S:

Thanks! I think the first is probably one of my best pics I have ever taken. Really starting to get comfortable with this camera now after using a P&S for so long.

Well, I've become quite obsessed with Flickr. I barely knew it existed before. But now, I'm hooked.

Check out these photos I added to my account. All taken with the Canon EOS 7D.

I am not a photographer - I just like taking pictures. I like going out and just seeing what I can see.

I started with a regular digital camera - and then recently got a dslr (digital slr). Post some photos you have taken ask for advice (ie - what people like or do not like based on composition etc.) and go from there. I will try to get some up from my regular digital camera later as well as from my dslr - I will tag them so you can see the differences or similarities

I know we all like art, so here you go!

Here is my Dad's website. It is his retired job/hobby. They are all photos, some changed with photoshop, others left alone.

We are from Steamboat Springs, so a lot is taken there, but there are others too. Let me know if I can help you out on pricing with any of these.

He has several different options for not framing or framing.

    Everything is done by him.

I am mainly on DP or WH, but will check back here too!

    Feedback is welcome too!

Hey I'm Matt, I'm completely new to this thread but I just thought I'd post some of my shots from Dave and Tim at Canadagiua about a week ago, one of the best performances I've seen in awhile... Shot using a CanonT2i w/ an EF-S 55-250mm ... Enjoy and please be in touch if you'd like any of the files, more can be found on my Flickr and I'm working on finishing a few more.

Apparently Nikon has solved the autofocus problem in video mode on DSLR's:

If that's true, that is really quite a big deal.

My bride-to-be and I were traveling down I-135 on our way home today and stopped at Coronado Heights. We had an impromptu photoshoot.

Here are the best shots, imo.

Here are more shots, courtesy of Facebook. Ignore the first two.

I love my camera (Canon PowerShot SX20IS. I have it on the function where I can manipulate the shutter speed and the camera adjusts the aperture and focus. I rarely use flash...case in point the shot of her in the castle stairwell.

Though it's not of her, I especially like the shot of the grasshopper. I was about seven feet away zoomed well into my digital zoom and still got that shot.

    Critique and comment away!
