The ornic thing is that Allen Houston didn't even get cut because of the Allen Houston rule, the Knicks decided to keep him.

The rule is that you can 'cut' a player - he still gets paid 100% of his contract, but the contract does not count against the salary cap/luxury tax, and the team cutting the player can not resign the player.

The rule was in effect for only one offseason (betwen the last expiring CBA, and the current one), but I would guess they'd bring it back again.

I need to thank you guys. Because of this thread and the NCAA Basketball thread I end up getting at least one sports question right a week at the trivia game I play. Two weeks ago the question was "What team does the first round draft pick from 2009 play for?" I remembered Blake Griffin and the clue song helped us get The Clippers. Then last night the question was "What player, who received the Outstanding Player Award, in 2003 helped lead the Orangemen to their first national title?" The clue song was Donovan's "Mello Yellow". I remembered Carmelo Anthony from this thread.
