Ants Basketball Players Club ABPC

So who else likes to play basketball, rather than just watch? I for one probably like playing more than I do watching. So how often do you all play and where do you typically play, and did anyone play high school or college? This could also be the place to discuss any cool things that happened while playing. I'm off to go play ball myself actually at 24 Hour Fitness.

Ever since my ankle injury, my rebounding tenacity has plummeted. But I still got a nasty jump shot

i'm 6'3 195 and have been told i'm surprisingly quick not sure how to take that though.

i never played HS but looking back i probably could have, i was just into some other stuff. i played a lot of rec ball at NIU and was the typical white guy player. meaning i made up for my lack of athleticism with hustle and good defense

i like posting up but in most rec situations that's a lost cause, so i normally hang out around the perimeter and do a lot of cutting. i am a pretty good three-point shooter, but i'm not a good catch and shoot guy, i like having the ball and creating a shot.

i also like to think i'm crafty around the basket, and make some crazy reverse layups with lots of spin on the ball, but unfortunately for every 2 of those i make, one of them is a bit off and looks absolutely horrific

Back in the day, I was awesome at rebounding. I'd kill to get my awesome vertical jump back. 5 on 5, full court is where it's at.

Not tall enough, but all my friends are around the same height, so it doesn't matter. If I'm dealing with you guys being 6'4 and above, I'm screwed at 5'11.

it's absolutely insane to think that at 6'3 i usually end up playing center in pick up games, but in the NBA i would be a small guard.

I'm 6'3" so I used to always play center, but I was the center that could stroke the three all day long. I was never really that strong, so that's primarily what I did.

I'm 6'1. I play 5 on 5 full most of the time. I'm a good shooter and I can play on the block. I'm a great passer from the post but I do struggle to score as a post player on guys taller than me. I'm a big guy and I'm pretty much always stronger than the guys I play with. So, I can throw my weight around. I've been known to give a flagrant foul or two as well. Despite all of that, I spend the bulk of my time on the three line during 5 on 5 play, haha.

I play year round in several leagues throughout ATL... I'm short (5'9), so am a natural guard. I've got a quick first step though so can generally get into the lane and get my shit packed.

Is there anyone here that can dunk, I've been able to off and on, think it was my junior year in high school when I first dunked and the funny thing was that I was able to dunk so well but then I just hit a wall (jumping wise) and could only do it sometimes. And now that sometimes as become ever so often.

i used to be able to. not really in games cause i need a running start, but just messing around i could.

i did get a tip in dunk during a 5-5 game. i jumped up for a rebound and the ball hung up on the rim and it was perfect timing

Best I ever managed was a "layup dunk." My hands are small so palming the ball was always an issue and my knees are fairly shitty so I always had trouble getting up.

I play in a couple of 5v5 rec leagues these days. Some teams are more competitive than others, but it's some good basketball here in Indy.

I'm 6'7" and played in high school and also my freshman year of college before I broke my foot, transferred to a D2 school where the coach was a prick, and subsequently gave up playing college ball.

In high school I could dunk but it wasn't always the prettiest. I never dunked in a high school game though. The summer after high school, I could dunk with my eyes closed! Not sure if I got stronger or since I had stopped growing, my body finally caught up with me. I had numerous dunks in games. Nowadays, I'm back to where I can dunk but it isn't always pretty! Granted, it's been 12 years and I'm probably 40-50 pounds heavier than I was then!

I used to be a post player in high school and college, but I've found myself moving out towards the 3 point line as I get older and wiser!! I shoot pretty good though from behind the arc so it pisses other teams off when a 6'7" guy is raining 3's on them!! It's pretty tough to guard!

Just got back from playing at Cypress, CA 24 Hour Fitness (just in case any Ants go there) I hadn't played in a while so I was pretty rusty but still was able to knock down some critical three's. It's a fun way to keep in shape--or at least keep yourself closer to being in shape

last week when i played me and three older guys are going 2-2 and a couple of like 21 year old black kids showed up so we played 3-3 and of course the guy i was guarding was one of the 21 year olds who was probably 6'7

i got dominated. i made some nice moves and scored a decent amount, but it's so hard to take a jumper against a guy who's got 4 inches and a much higher vertical than you . i did block him once and i was quite proud

I was the starting PG for my high School and Junior College basketball teams for 3 and 2 years respectively... my father has been a varsity high school coach for 27 years (was my coach) and college coach for 3 years before that. Actually when I was born in '84 my dad was at a game and had to leave when my mom went into labor so basketball is in my blood

I don't play as much anymore since I am a high school referee now but I try and play on nice days down at the park in the summer and if I have time I play with this team in the YMCA League

I love playing. I love watching too ( go celts ), but playing is where it's at. I play in two men's leagues here in Maine; very competitive... one league is actually televised on the local cable station. Both leagues are winter leagues so I am actually pretty hard up for a game at the moment. I played high school and D1 college ball. Basketball and DMB were pretty much my entire High School and College life. 6'4, can still throw down. Lovin' the love for basketball.
