We’re doing a birthday parade for the 2 year old on Sunday. Supposed to have about 20 cars with family and friends drive by with a police car. Will likely cry like a baby when I see how excited he gets.

When I was a child, I never understood those kids who liked the crust cut off. Now 4.5 year old asks for her crust cut off all the time. I have failed as a parent.

    That will be awesome.

Yesterday was my daughters birthday. I arranged it so we drove to 20 houses of friends and family, and each one had a different distanced mini-celebration for her. In between drives I had videos from family and friends who lived too far away, and every single teacher she has ever had, wishing her a happy birthday in their own creative ways.

It worked out great and she loved the entire thing.

Ooooh baby. I love saving the ends of the bread for last and toasting them or using them for french toast. So good.

Parent of a 20-month old here. I've been WFH on Mon/Wed/Fri sorta voluntarily, and I've decided to keep her out of daycare with me on those days, since I can manage it, and it's that much less that she's going there being around people. BUT we have let the schedule slide a bit on those days. I will let her sleep til around 11 give or take, so I can get plenty of work done. Then we play and hangout until around 3ish when she goes back for a nap and I can get back to work. She manages to be okay getting up at 7:15 on Tue/Thur for daycare. She's pretty resilient.

It's been tough but I've been trying to look at the positives, like the extra time with her has been great. Once this all started, it felt like we were both learning so much about her, like "holy shit, you know fuckin Itsy Bitsy Spider?!" And it seems like she's learned and grown so much in these couple months.

Police car?! Damn - how'd you swing that?

I've done no fewer than 4 of these during this bullshit. Never had anything that dope.

    Parents with teenagers:

My gf has twin 14 year olds. They wanted their buddy to sleep over last Thursday night. She allowed it. He has not gone home yet. Is this normal behavior these days for sleepovers? I remember when I was a kid, you'd get dropped off around dinner time and picked up around lunch time the next day.

He's a nice kid, single mom, works weird hours, etc. Our boys behave better and don't fight when he's there. So overall I like when he's there. 6 days is very long. Mom also door dashes food for them while he's here.

When I was around that age, I stayed at friends homes for days and vice versa, though it was over the summer and not during a pandemic. And all parents knew ahead of time that it wasn’t a one night thing.

It was before we were old enough to drive and my one friend was a good 30 - 45 minutes away (same school district, just a rural area), so the parents probably thought it was easier.

We’ve also had my son’s friends with us at our weekend place from after school on Friday’s to Sunday evening.

I don’t think it’s odd to stay multiple days. If they get along and the Mom is even sending them food, I say no big deal.

Anybody have baby cams for more than one kid?

This is a cross between a parenting question and a tech question. We have a Nest cam for our almost-2-year-old. It's not so much that we need to monitor her all night but at this point a big part of it is just seeing when she's awake. Some time several months ago she stopped making any noises and will just stand in her crib for as much as 30 minutes until we go get her.

We have another girl due in September, and after the first several weeks or so of sleeping in our room, she'll be in her room, and we're torn on what to do as far as the camera sitch.

Easy thing would be to get another Nest cam, so we just have both in the one app.

Or I could get something like a 2-pack of Blink cameras which are indoor/outdoor and use one as an outdoor security cam and the other with our first daughter for a little while longer til we no longer need it. Then that one could go out say the back of the house or something.

If you need to access the camera from the phone/outside the home, Nest is your best best. If you don't care and a normal baby monitor will do, get the Infant Optics from Amazon. Allows up to 4 camera. I have one in each twin's room.

I realized Blinks don't really let you watch continuous video. Then I saw a good looking one on Amazon that seemed perfect until someone mentioned you can only look at it on the app, one person at a time, unless you make a separate account and share access.

It's probably not entirely necessary but yeah, with Nest we're just so used to being able to have it on the tablet, pull it up on either of our phones, or if I have my laptop/working from home, I can pull it up on a browser. They definitely just make it easy that way.

I don’t even have a dog anymore to quell the silence - since Sheena went back into the office on Monday and the kids are back at daycare it’s just me. I could have pure silence if I wanted it. It is nice to be able to focus on just one thing.

Almost-2-yo daughter woke up at 5am Tuesday not happy. Then she's woken up at 6 at least 2 other days this week (can't remember, all a blur) including this morning. We usually wake her up about 7.

Hopefully she gets a reset over the weekend and this isn't the new norm. She's always slept like a champ.

That sounds amazing. Both kids are yo at 5-5:30 everyday. Makes for a fun cuddle session on the couch though while we all wake up.

In other news... I broke my toe trilling over my sons step stool. Wtf.
