Re: Drunken Soldier

I don't care what you want to call it, this song is incredible. I can't get over how good the outro is.

    Drunken Soldier:

    Keep your head up
    Try, listen to your heart
    Be kind always, no matter…
    We all grow up
    And someday we’ll say goodbye
So shine your light while you got one

Make the most of what you’ve got
Don’t waste time trying to be something you’re not
Fill up your head, fill up your heart, and take your shot
Don’t waste time trying to be something you’re not

Once round, just once, oh take your shot
Don’t waste time trying to be something you’re not
You fill up your head, fill up your heart, ‘cause that’s all we got
Don’t waste time trying to be something you’re not

    Through your window
Well that’s one way to see the world
Step outside and look back into…
    Look and listen
And you’ll decide what to believe
Shine your light while you got one

Make the most of what you’ve got
Don’t waste time trying to be something you’re not
Fill up your head, fill up your heart, and take your shot
Don’t waste time trying to be someone you’re not

    That’s not a star, that’s a satellite
    That’s not a star, that’s a satellite
    That’s not a star, that’s a satellite
    That’s not a star, that’s a satellite…

Really? I've only listened to it once so far. But I'm not that sold on it yet. That's awesome that you like it so much, though. Gives me hope that after a couple more listens I'll probably end up feeling the same way.

Snow Outside and Rooftop for me.

    Re: Drunken Soldier

This song is absolutely explosive and has an intro/outro unlike anything DMB has ever put out. They took a real step out of their element with this tune and although it may be premature I think they killed it.
Drunken Soldier definitely has potential to be a closer/encore, and a monstrous one at that. There's a lot to be said about it because it certainly is a BIG song, but after a few listens I have very few bad things to say and a whole lot of good things.
The outro has undertones of Bowie/Pink Floyd and is absolutely out of this world, was not expecting anything I was expecting.

I'm with you, there is way too much going on in Drunken Soldier to form a solid opinion about it right now, need more listens. Snow Outside is my favorite with Broken Things just behind it. I really like Rooftop as well.

Wow, with all the hype and shit that Drunken Soldier was getting, I think it exceeded my expectations. Lyrics are pretty good, and the outro is just awesome. I'm really impressed.

This shook me hard and deep like Bartender live on the first listen. Been a decade since I've felt that from a DMB recording. I AM BLOWN AWAY.

Holy mess. I love this song. This is incredible! When I heard 9-minute epic, I never imagined it being like this. Love the Pink Floyd outro feel. Tim makes some incredible noises. But who is going to play the keys live??

The end of this song has to be a Pink Floyd "Breathe" tribute. Or else a straight up rip-off. Great song but def should see Roger Waters (and possibly Buffalo Springfield) in the credits.

Wow, I think this is one of the catchiest chorus' that he has written. This would be a killer single if it didn't mean dicing the shit out of some of the best parts of the song.

Love the message and the lyrics.

Def, my fav song on this album...and my favorite since YNK and Grey St.

Also does anyone think that the violin in the beginning sounds like Karma Police by Radiohead?
