Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Finally made it through the 2011 movies. Took me a minute because life actually got in the way for the bit. No Complaints. I did start West Wing over and knocked the first two seasons out pretty quick but I needed a break from movies.

1. The Descendants
2. The Help
3. The Tree Of Life
4. Midnight in Paris
5. The Artist
6. Moneyball
7. Hugo
8. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
9. War Horse

Up to 177 on the year. Need to step it up if I am going to keep up with a movie a day for the year

Finally got around to this. Instant classic. I'm a complete wreck.

Midnight in Paris is at least 100x better than Tree of Life, as is every other movie ever

I’ll never understand what people see in Hugo, still one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

I’m also shocked you wouldn’t have A Separation in there.

A Separation barely cracks my top 20 for 2011.

But 2011 was probably my favorite film year of the last decade.

Hugo is great for what it is: a young adult mystery movie. I'm glad Scorsese made it. It adds diversity to his canon. All of them can't be gritty crime dramas, folks.

And I don’t need them to be. But that movie (and script in particular) is baaaaaad.

Damn, the more I think on it the more it runs away as the best film of 2011.

This is a pretty brutal watch just due to the subject matter, but it could have been way "worse". The NPR Podcast "Believed" was far more difficult to listen to and it covered more of the criminal side of the investigation. Either way, this was very good, and the survivor arc weaved in really made it.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is on Netflix. Reminds me when I was a kid and would watch Batman The Animated Series after school.

Fuck, I know what I'm watching later today. I don't think I've seen that since it was out on VHS for rental.

Speaking of 2011, fucking hilarious that the Oscars gave Best Picture to The Artist

Like... of all the fucking amazing movies that came out in 2011, you give the top prize to that pile of shit.

Yeah, he's been in some iffy movies, but he's still never less than solid.

My favourites with him in a prominent role:

    Bug
    Revolutionary Road
My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done
    Take Shelter
    99 Homes
    Nocturnal Animals
    The Shape of Water

I figured someone from your neck of the woods would've already done so. I always go on vacation in October, and one trip I'd really like to make in the next few years is to hit up Salem and Martha's Vineyard, with Sleepy Hollow thrown in for good measure.

It looks great on HBO Max. It also feels more socially relevant than ever given the current state of affairs. Mayor Vaughn is the real villain of the movie, along with his "cure can't be worse than the problem" rhetoric.
