The song is 5 seconds longer as a single. What's longer? The outro?

On a BBN sidenote... could it be possible that they didn't choose it as the single because it's a raunchy, sexual love whereas If Only is more family friendly. Just a thought.

eh, i don't think so, i mean, the lyrics aren't raunchy at all. I mean, look at Flo Rida's current single "Whistle" or whatever its called.

I honestly think it's purely because it's the first track on the album

    Re: If Only

figured I'd play the album the last hour of my night here at work, If Only came on, a after the first chorus the phone rang, I usually don't turn the music down because we have noise cancelling headphones, but this one customer was able to hear it and she said "are you listening to Dave Matthews", I replied "Yes, you can hear that?",and she said "sweetie, I can hear Dave a the lowest decibel, turn it up!".. I just thought it was awesome.. The lady had to be in her late 20's, was an intern at one of the law firms that uses our service, thought that was bad ass,

I heard a rumor this was the next single. I heard it today on KINKfm in Portland. I don't know how I feel . . . pleasantly surprised? This is one of the best singles, imo, in quite awhile. But don't get me wrong, I do love Mercy, especially the jam at the end that the radio cuts off

A song that IMO just doesn't work well live, But I've been listening to the studio cut alot lately and been really digging it. Anyone else been loving this one lately?

It's been growing on me a lot lately. This version (Hollywood Bowl 2012: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baE6nF37bSI) is the best I've heard yet. Everyone is mixed perfectly on it. Boyd sounds awesome starting at 5:05 to the end, and the horns during the outro make it seem like the song just "melts" away.

I've probably listened to the album version 1,000,000 times and it is amazing every time. I don't mind live versions when I listen to them on Youtube, but when you are at the show it is a hard one to get into...can't figure out why.

I'm not a big fan of this song. Tim plays some cool licks throughout, but other than that there isn't much going on.

Nah, you're wrong. Not going to justify it with argument. Your opinion is just wrong. It's a lovely little song done perfectly. I love it.

I think this song sounds like it came straight out of the dmb/batson era. It's my least favorite song on the record.

It has a similar style to Batson-DMB, but unlike Batson-DMB, it's actually good + listenable

After hearing that this song is about "all of us" (Dave's words), I have a whole new respect and love for If Only. Instead of it being simply about some girl, it has a deeper meaning, it's about the old days and wanting to 'have them back again'... Listen to it in that frame of mind and it will change your perception. I think it has potential to be one of those gems down the road.
