There are no shows from the late 90's that crack the top 100 of longest DMB shows.

98 is great. but 2010 doesn't suck comparatively by any means. You were younger and had a better time then, it clouds your memory.

Have you seen a show Jan? then or now? not being rude. It's just hard to really have a gauged opinion if you've only listened to shows.

Shows now are longer and at a higher level of tightness and musicianship. The band has only continued to hone its talents on the road. There was a looseness and youthfulness to shows in the 90's that made them great. It's silly to think it's possible for that to last. And to just shit on new shows, in my humble opinion, makes you a jaded looser with some sort of nostalgic agenda. Whomever it may be that does that.

Don't confuse being young and drunk, with it being a better show. And don't just listen to tapes, you have to go. Seems your in another country, so thats a tuff bracket. I've also wanted to see a show overseas though. Much less ego/expectations in the fan base.

and yet it seems the Lewis character still goes to shows as he has his concerts posted. Does he just stand there and grimace? DMB shows are multigenerational now, but to me it seems there lots of peeps in the crowd that don't add anything to the collective energy. Just occurred to me that all these sour puss fans wishing it was '98 are probably putting that vibe out. It would be better if they just didn't go.

And then half the crowd wouldn't be there... the 'vibe killing' is done by the young drunk kids who won't shut the fuck up and listen... but rather chat with each other, talk on their phones, take shitty videos and sing the wrong lyrics to Crash/Crush.

Boyd also stopped playing his usual chorus part in The Stone a couple years ago...And I loved it! But let me just say that I have been/am/will continue to be a huge BT fan.

i don't think so, but fortunately for me i'm not that interested in the vocals for this one.

i've never had this thought when two step starts - "man, i hope he really nails the vocals on this one."

Sorry dude but it's impossible to take you seriously when you post stuff like this.

Just accept it. DMB isn't as good as they used to be. And that's ok. That's what happens when a band exists for 20 years. I'm glad you enjoy the current product and believe me, I love going to shows as much now as I did ten years ago. But let's not kid ourselves here.

Very valid. Do you think anyone liked the dead more in '92 vs. '77?

    Edit: assuming they remember 77

The only lyric change is the intro. Don't romanticize, plenty of those were barley understandable and average. They started in 97 but didn't really get good till early 2000. Its a great part, but doesn't make or break the song. How about the jam at the end is 12 times as awesome as it was back in 98?

Nah Dog, how about fuck off? Don't take me seriously because I don't give haters the time of day.

It makes a lot of sense to say 10 years later, as a band has continually toured and honed their craft, they have gotten worse. By your reasoning their first show was their best ever.

nope. "why did Boyd stop playing that part?" is a stupid question that no one can answer. Perfection in your eyes. DMB makes this music, let them decide.

I'm the person who created the twitter campaign for Spoon. You called me out of control, "narcasistic", and psycho.

Keep in mind, this was the first twitter campaign of any large size - Deer Creek had minor twitter campaigns - and this was in response to the fact the band was taking the year off in 2011.

Here is the "psycho" thread. I'm the OP:

    http://antsmarching.org/forum/showth...itter+campaign

You mean to tell me that I was stalking the band? Personally, I think it's the only effective twitter campaign - primarily because of my first post in the thread. I know a lot of stories I've heard around here about psychos and stalker-ish behavior, and this was not. It also worked, with the help of tons of people from this site.

I still love going to shows but to say that the show I saw this year at STL (Riverport, UMB, Verizon, etc.) was better than the first show I saw there in 2000 (09/18) to be exact is beyond ludicrous.

I'll always love DMB, but to say that a set full of clunkers like You & Me, Shake Me, Seven, etc. is (or was) better than that 09/18/2000 set is plain nuts (and Dave hadn't even plugged in yet). I didn't get bored either. Nobody did. Lot less "scenesters" back then as opposed to now.

I still have a great time, they're still my favorite band and I'm sure as hell glad I got into them when I did.
