The only lyric change is the intro. Don't romanticize, plenty of those were barley understandable and average. They started in 97 but didn't really get good till early 2000. Its a great part, but doesn't make or break the song. How about the jam at the end is 12 times as awesome as it was back in 98?

It makes a lot of sense to say 10 years later, as a band has continually toured and honed their craft, they have gotten worse. By your reasoning their first show was their best ever.
