Could not agree more. Rockbridge Guitars are phenomenal instruments that sound great. It's definitely different from a Taylor though

She clicked for me on the first live listen with Tim’s guitar riff during the chorus. After that listen it’s been steadily downhill. I don’t mind if I hear it now (especially if it’s sounding tight), but I enjoy the song far less.

I wouldn't rank it above those, but do think it's a very underated song. I think anyone that may have experienced a divorce, may appreciate it a little more.

I think She is extremely similar to The Riff and Time Bomb, aka not very good and super forgettable

I mourned him most at our first show of the this tour. Didn't miss Boyd, but as they were playing #41 all my ears (and soul) wanted to hear was LeRoi...and I love Jeff.

I'm listening all the way through Stand Up for the first time ever I think. I've listened to each individual song before but this is the first time I'm listening to it as a unit.

Going to be completely honest - I actually think it's pretty good going into it as a hip hop album. As an album together, the flow is great, and I'm noticing many things about each of the songs that I hadn't paid attention to before. Roi's little sax interlude at the very end of Steady sounds almost like the end of Can't Stop (same sort of messing around). Boyd has some cool little interjections in the middle of Stand Up the song.

It's 100% not anywhere near one of my top DMB albums, but it doesn't feel like garbage to me as many others feel it is.

    Stand up

Im sure it drove those who gave them a second chance after everyday dropped once and for all. I don’t even think I brought the cd back from Korea back in 06

Started writing it in the Lost 06 tapes thread, but then thought it's more appropriate to post here.
I'm annoyed as hell that everyone here wants to get a hold of those recordings. If the band thought they don't need to be released, just let go.

If it had been 2 or 3 years, I’d say yeah. Let’s wait and see what they do with this trove of unreleased material. But it’s been 12 years.

Edit: but I do respect your opinion on it. I know I’d be crushed if I had work that was presented to the world that I didn’t feel was complete. I just wish they’d release the damn sessions one day

It's hard to disagree with this sentiment but speculation-based-on-practically-nothing tells me that these were not withheld because these were deemed unfit or didn't want them to be heard, I think it was simply a matter of moving on from Batson and finding new life with Cavallo.

I'm sure there are a few (if not many) of the 06 Batson tunes were revisited with Cavallo in 07/08 but new inspiration struck the band and they went a different direction.

In other words, this doesn't feel like a LWS scenario in that they didn't want the music to be released, they just never got around to releasing/revisiting these songs and may not be all that interested in ever doing so without our intervention.

But that’s the one of the unique aspects of art...the creator’s unfinished work can be the best thing they’ve ever made to the fans, patrons, and critics. The artist can be too close to the work to be objective about it.

That said, this place can be brutal to Dave...for whatever that’s worth.

    Was he?

I didn’t read everything about it, but it seems mgmt and the Rex execs were the ones most on his ass about it.

Maybe ED was purposely so much less from him to show how stellar the LWS were. Dave might’ve been saying, “Here’s your safe poppy/formulaic album...see how it fairs against the LWS with our fans.

“Then see how they like the official release of those songs.”

Yeah, it sold a million less than ED, but there’s got to b close to a million “copies” of the LWS floating around out there.

Regardless, Carter was the most verbal I saw or heard anyone be about the leak.

"Crushed" may be an exaggerated expression, but yeah he was vocally upset about that work getting out. I read some things about it before, and I've seen an interview with the band where Dave was vocally upset about it

Here's an awesome article that I just found on the subject from what seems to be 2000 (though the byline reads 2007) that features this quote from Dave about his reaction to the leak:

Matthews: It was a little bit frustrating. But what’s done is done. The stuff was on its way to being finished. A lot of the songs were done. The picture was painted, so my part in it was done, essentially. If they were paintings and every gallery that I took them to was like, ”No, we can’t use that,” the paintings would still be paintings, and the satisfaction of having painted them would also have been completed. And then, sure, I’ll go back and do two pictures of happy children with clowns.

    Compare that to Carter's reaction:

Beauford: When those tapes were released, I was so pissed off. That was a piece of us that was not ready to be heard. We were creating something, we weren’t finished, and this is what we do for a living, and someone just came in and took it. It makes it harder on the true fans, because it makes us want to clam up a bit and not give as much, because of some knucklehead who wants to be the hero because he or she has put some stuff on the Internet and wants that 15 minutes of fame. It sucks. If we do ever put these recordings out, the whole element of surprise is gone.

This Rolling Stone article is pret-ty good, too:

Dave: "When they first got out on the Web, it was like walking into a gallery and there’s a crowd of people standing around looking at an unfinished painting and judging you for it. I can’t blame the fans for wanting to hear the thing, but it can’t fix the feeling that you’ve been robbed. There was an ugliness to it that left me feeling violated.”

I remember seeing them on the Carson Daily (sp?) show and Carter was doing the talking a saying this. It seems more like the official company line rather than the end of the world for the band. I'm not, however, trying to say that it didn't upset them or Dave in particular.

It's just hard to tell what's real and sincere...remembering the Charlie Rose show they did to promote Everyday and Carter saying that being excluded from the writing/creation process and just being handed charts made him feel validated. Didn't believe then and I don't believe it now.

I'm annoyed as hell that everyone here wants to get a hold of those recordings. If the band thought they don't need to be released, just let go.

Agree 100%. Which is why I don't have a copy of Lillywhite Sessions and have never listened to it. I'm sure I will at some point, several friends have it waiting for me to give the nod, but I'm not a fan of leaked studio material that the artist didn't want released.

Cop, She, CoCo, Again and Again, and Here on Out are great songs, and just because people are tired of seeing them pop up every night on setlists shouldn't take away from how great they are.
