- The venue itself is fine. Not great, not terrible. However, it is one of the very few venues that DMB plays which is completely exposed to the elements. If weather comes, as we experienced in 2021, it is a LONG way to cover.

- Again, just my 2 cents, but the reason I don't get nearly as excited for these shows as Alpine has nothing to do with the venue itself, but that DMB treats Alpine sets as "special" and Chicago is always just another 2 night stand. I haven't seen anyone mention that, yet. Alpine typically has some of the best setlists in any given tour, I don't think that's ever happened at Northerly Island. United Center shows have always sucked (and did again this past winter) and NI generally does not get elevated sets like Alpine does.

- That being said, personally my priorities have shifted since what things were 10+ years ago, so making a weekend of it at Alpine just doesn't work anymore. Plus, I'm not as big of a fan of this iteration of DMB as I was in the past. I'm not shelling out the money for a hotel in Lake Geneva to see the setlists they've been playing the last 5+ years. I didn't go last year and wouldn't have gone this year for more than a single show if they played there again. I have a feeling I'm not alone in this category. Northerly Island I can take a bus and sleep in my own bed. So, I'll pop over to these, most likely.

- As for hotels, I highly recommend the Chicago Athletic Association if you can swing it. My favorite hotel in the city. If I didn't already live in Chicago, I personally would much rather stay in the loop which allows me to get on any CTA line and go explore other/better neighborhoods instead of River North (which I avoid like the plague), but that's just me. Also, if you have AAA, Hyatt Centric is $250/night that weekend.

- The Taste 10000% does not impact the price of hotels. It's a summer weekend in Chicago. Hotels are all packed every weekend in July. The only event in the city that really moves the needle to be exceptionally high hotel prices is Lolla, and even that is only like a 10-15% increase. $250-400/night for decent hotels is standard for any summer weekend in Chicago.

Yup to all of this.

And thatís why they play Northerly. They have another chunk of fan base that will easily pop over to northerly but wonít go up to Alpine.

Iím in Chicago 10-15 days per month for work and lived there 12 years. Most of my network and family are in the city. I donít love the loopÖ but itís certainly more convenient for these shows.

As long as the weather is goodÖ. Alpine isnít a great place to be stuck in a storm either. Although the pavilion is partially covered and they do have that huge concession area at the back thatís indoors. Iíll never forget the tornado/mudslide years though. Ugh.

That wind shift in 2021 was my que to leave the pit when I did. I beat the storm and was glad I did when I did. Still a great time.

Shortened N1 was on a great pace IMO, I was loving the set.

Ended up skipping Grace is Gone > Rhyme and they aborted Everyday. Encore was Here on Out > Ants. Some solid songs cut but show was fun and N2 was great.

Terrible sound. Flat lawn. Rough curfew. It takes a lot to get me to want to go despite it being close to me.

Made the tough decision to not put in for tickets. Going to try my luck with public on sale and if that goes to hell, like every other on sale (Thanks again, Ticketbastard), I'll skip this year. Any other venue though, and I'd probably put in more effort. Northerly is awful.

The curfew is 11pm, like every other place. When was the last time the band played past 11pm?

This has to be the biggest donkey comment on here from someone with a 2002 account. Of all the shows your profile states you've been at, I am almost certain the only venue you have listed that goes past a 11pm curfew is Alpine.

Dmb has been going off stage at like 10:30 in recent years

Edit: ok maybe not, but they definitely arenít playing until curfew at every stop anymore

I have lost track of how many shows I've been to that went long. Northerly is the only one I've been to where you could tell the curfew was a point of emphasis. And sure, if they go on early enough it doesn't matter. But in the days they were going on at 8:20-30 it hurts.

They haven't needed to go past curfew much lately. But that's the least important of my complaints.

Do ya'll go to shows to hear and see the band perform or do you go there to critique and make sure the band plays till 11 because they can?

Do you go to a bar and stay there till they close, every time? smh

Ahh, Chicago shows. Are we all gearing up to be underwhelmed by average-at-best sets? Actually, since this is a new album tourÖgonna be a rough 2 night stand.

I have pretty low expectations going into shows these days. I donít expect anything rare or special. Leaves me a lot less disappointed.

Expectations are even lower on an album tour.

I took a break at the end of summer through the winter (went to the Chicago UC show but other than that, I didnt read the boards here or even login, etc.)

I found the break was really nice. Came back refreshed and really enjoying the band for what they currently are.

    Excited for Chicago shows.

Yeah i haven't had crazy expectations for shows in a while. I find it more fun as a night out doing something with people you enjoy and listening to music you love.
The shows this year are on my moms bday, so it'll be fun to be with the whole family. They rarely go to shows anymore, so I'm sure anything will be a huge surprise for them and seeing those reactions is always the best.

Same thing happened to my brother. I'll be helping him sell those on here and on Warehouse if anyone is interested. Section/Row locations should come out in a couple of weeks.

They always had sections 101 and 105? Why did I think those were all pit before? Go figure.

TONS of tickets during the presale... but they didn't pop up for a few minutes... snagged pit for N1. Carted 105 multiple times.
