    fair point.

hence my return to SPAC after a few year hiatus. gorge and spac are the only reliable venues for solid sets!

SPAC brings more energy than it does unique setlists which I've come to live with

The question is though, did you have them at the VENUE or did you go there after the show? WILDLY different results imo. They have had doughboys at the venue last two years and they were total ASS. Going to Esperanto's they are fresh and way better. Dip em in some hot sauce oooooooh man. perfect after show snack to soak up the alcohol haha

Home venue is Alpine Valley and with this being the off-year where they do two shows at the shitty Chicago Northerly Island venue then just one in Milwaukee at Summerfest, we thought we'd skip that this year and head to SPAC for the first time.

I have our ticket requests in but was wondering if there were any good places (i.e., links) to go on here for info on all things SPAC. I see the mention here about about all the bars and DMB cover bands on N0. That sounds awesome! We've never been to upstate NY anywhere so any place that has info would be awesome.

We'd prefer to stay closer to SS but aren't opposed to something further away. We'll be flying to ALB and renting a car.

I don't mean to ask the obvious questions over and over but as a first-timer, any help would be much appreciated! If I just need to search on my own I can but thought I'd ask for those that might have some good info at the ready to point me to.

    Thanks (in advance)!!

    Welcome!

At this point, unless you have the $ to spend a fortune on downtown Saratoga, you're gonna have to look elsewhere for a hotel. (clifton park, queensbury, albany airport). On top of it being summer and dmb weekend, you also have to contend with the race track opening. Saratoga will be extra busy.

    As for things to do:
    Race Track
    Casino
    Lake George Village
    Hiking in the Adirondacks
    Automobile Museum
    Racing Museum
Or my personal favorite...eating and drinking thru Saratoga (so many great restaurants and bars) compared to the size of the town.

There is no specific link to info but there are plenty of good opinions in this thread.

Might I also recommend Breakfast At The Track. You can either do a buffet there down by the rail or bring in your own coffee, mimosas, etc. and sit in a box and watch the horses warmup for the day, up close. Training staff is super friendly and its basically all-access to the front side of the track. They also offer a free back stretch tour of the track which is super awesome and informative.

The key is, getting up early to get there.

You may want to look into Airbnbs unless you don't mind splurging for a hotel (as prices are extra high this year).

I don't believe there is an aggregate Saratoga tips etc. type document like what is available for the Gorge but ask your questions here and someone will reply.

Make sure you opt out of lawn in your ticket requests and brace yourself for declines, unfortunately.

The group of people who generally are active in this thread usually attend a large tailgate in the park each day and are very welcoming to new people should you want something to do.

Brad (CrushLive) is your local and will guide you along your way. I'd blindly take any of his advice.

One thing I will suggest is to go as early as you can. Make a little vacation out of it outside of your typical Friday/Sat shows then leave on Sunday. There is a ton to do, and SS has more charm than anywhere else in NY. You'll definitely fall in love with the area. If you can go a few days early, do it. I go Weds morning every year and even then, I could easily spend the entire week there prior to the shows.

As far as places to stay - luckily SS is very easily accessible and car friendly. The misfortune in 2023 is that DMB is playing during track opening season, so getting an AirBnB close to downtown is going to cost an arm and a leg. If you find a decent spot in a 15-20 min radius, go for it. Parking downtown, the state park, etc, is very user friendly and once you are there you are there. Same goes for the venue - driving is your best bet since Uber is atrocious after any concert venue.

Research and make reservations ASAP, it will be a lot busier this year than most since DMB and track opening season will bring a TON of people into the area.

I'm from IL a couple hours south of Chicago. It was easy to get from ORD to ALB on their straight flight. The highway down to Saratoga is minutes from the airport/rental pick up.

The regulars on the boards has been super helpful, there's a SPAC Facebook group with a lot of info "DMB SPAC Crew", and I had a co worker who used to live in Saratoga so she gave me some ideas. Feel free to reach out especially if you have any questions I can answer that may be Alpine vs SPAC specific.

I've been quietly lurking for quite a bit, but was wondering if you can expand on the recommendation to opt out of lawn? Is the theory that if you say you'll take lawn then you'll get lawn and definitely not seats? Would opting to take lawn make it more likely to not get shut out altogether, though? Last year i opted out, and got seats one night and nothing the other; had to buy a seat for N1 on ticketmaster during the citi presale and paid too much (but in retrospect, not as much as many others paid). I had thought maybe this year i'd opt in to lawn and avoid that hassle.... am i thinking wrong?

For the first time ever I opted out of lawn for both nights. My wife and I are just over the lawn crowd at this point, especially for how crowded it is at SPAC. I expect we'll get seats one night and I'll need to go thru ticketbastard for the other.

I don't think opting in/out is going to change your chances on getting seats. The issue here (in February when confirms come out) is that you now are responsible for lawn seats that are never in demand, so should you find tickets on the boards/instants/etc, you now carry the burden of paying for lawns in advance then trying to sell them.

You can always buy lawns up to the day of the show so there really is zero reason to buy them this far in advance. Not to mention, ticket master is cheaper for both tickets and parking since you dont' have to pay for shipping.
