I know this has likely been discussed at length, but Jeff spends so much time recording with all kinds of musicians. I wish DMB had that kind of desire to get Jeff/Rashawn/Fonz/Carter in the studio and just let them cook!

Totally agree. That’s probably the main issue with them and new tunes. I’d settle for even Dave and Jeff just getting in there and working together.

Jeff is criminally underutilized. You can tell Jeff isn't a dude who likes rocking the boat, or drawing attention to himself, so I can't see him going to Dave with a bunch of ideas and tracks and asking Dave to write lyrics and melodies for them. If the band built around some of Jeff's shit, we'd probably get some incredible material.

Jeff barely has any songwriting credits since he joined the band. Unless you think the band is building songs around Jeff's musical ideas and refusing to give him songwriting credits, I'm pretty sure we can safely assume Jeff isn't playing a major role in DMB's songwriting.

Jeff has acted like a hired gun since he joined the band, why would he bother sharing any of his unique material with the band? He’s getting Grammy nominations saving that stuff for his own projects, good on him.

I heard portion of the studio WATM on Thursday and it sounded good. It’s via cell phone, so quality is dog dick, but it didn’t sound busy. Outro wasn’t much longer than Black and Blue Bird. Also heard one of the “solo” songs isn’t solo.

Yeah, I'm sure Dave went to Jeff and said something like, "I don't give a shit what you think or what music you write. Yeah he's the leader, but that's not always necessarily the case. There's still some level of collectiveness among the band members. At some point last year some people complained about FITR, and Jeff said something along the lines of 'we love Zeppelin and we love that music so we're gonna play the music we love'

I’m sure it wasn’t in reference to all his paying “customers”, just the ones that don’t realize that they pay for the opportunity to see him play, he doesn’t get paid for the opportunity to play in front of them.
