Because Live Nation needs to support the Charleston and Willmington venues

I think there are a lot of things in play here. No Bristow because they are doing Merriweather this year. This seems to be an every other year thing now, so I would imagine back to Bristow next year? Presumably Wilmington replaces both Charlotte and Raleigh although the placement after a holiday is very strange and even so I would not agree this is an adequate replacement as the venue is tiny and weird. No Virginia Beach I cannot find logic for, but being an album year I think Charlottesville is a possibility in the fall / winter.

Eh… Charleston did 2 nights last year with Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, and Jacksonville on the schedule and sold them both out with ease.

I would almost guarantee a Raleigh arena show in the winter, Charlotte as well. Or perhaps they venture to Greensboro to capture both crowds in one show. Charlottesville will likely have a winter show or 2 as well.

Each venue has it's own P/L that has to be managed, and business decisions have to be made by LN

Surely the band has some say as to where they play and which venues are appropriate. This venue in Wilmington, NC is very small, and the shows are on a Tuesday and Wednesday night. I couldn't tell you the last time they left Charlotte out of a summer tour list.

What is P/L? Why is LN telling musical acts where to play and when?

This makes no sense to me. Live Nation owns the venue in Charlotte, but they do not have any stake in the Charleston venue that I’m aware of. Ben Navarro owns the Charleston stadium and poured a ton of money into it 2 years ago, hence the uptick in quality of shows over the last year. I guess I just want to understand why live nation would be in charge of taking concerts away from the venues they own to support Navarro and Charleston.

Not playing VAB because they are most likely playing in the Something In The Water festival which is also in VAB.

Re: Why No Charlotte or Raleigh in '23?

P/L = Profit & Loss Statement. Each venue is it's own "business" falling under much larger, billion dollar corporations. The new Willmington venue is a Live Nation venue, it's certainly unprofitable to date, understandibly, as only a few shows have been there since opening. Live Nation opens a new venue = DMB plays there. The Charleston deal is probably a long term contract that's financially profitable.

And a business looking at the 4 Charleston/Willmington shows probably sees that also having Charlotte and/or Raleigh wouldn't be a good business decision.

Venues aren't chosen by "well they sold out Venue X last year, why aren't they playing there this year?"

These are all big business decisions well above all our pay-grades, as much as we all think we could run this $1B business better than Live Nation and others

They will most likely play some festival or a Fall tour stop at one of these cities I am sure.

Those venues aren't part of their tour schedule.

I dunno about the pay grade comment, as these are the same fans that shell out $5k for 3 shows in Mexico, pay $2k for Oasis at the Gorge and buy premium packages only. Just sayin, there are wealthy people among us. Not me, but someone is out there with really big paychecks.

That'd be my dream. We're talking "What would you do for a Klondike Bar" level of things I'd do to see them in Greensboro.

I know they need to support the new Wilmington venue but they should have at least kept one of the Charlotte/Raleigh dates. That Wilmington venue is terrible...hopefully they skip it next year. Seems silly to do 2 nights at Wilmington when 1 night at Charlotte or Raleigh sells more tickets.

I'm also hoping for a fall stop but I'm not holding my breath.

Definitely wouldn't mind a Greensboro Coliseum fall stop. Just saw Springsteen there and he even filled up the sections behind the stage. Pretty big seating capacity at 22K. That after show drive back to Raleigh is much easier than from Charlotte.
