Not necessarily. If you change it quick enough, I think before you leave the thread after posting, it won't say "edited by...".

Is this really converted from waves? Or was is it just MP3s pointlessly converted to SHN? I don't ever remember hearing about this being released in lossless.

The stream probably wasn't lossless, it's just better to get it into shn so it gets traded properly and doesn't get traded in mp3 anymore.

He was like "Can you convert these to SHN so I can trade them?" The whole point of a Lossless is to NOT lose quality. It doesn't add quality. I'm all for lossless shows. I don't feel like taking extra space up on my hard drive for SHN's when the original format is MP3. Then I have to convert to wav, and then MP3. There's just no point.

It would be good to have the original mp3s for use on a mp3 player because converting these back down to mp3 would lose a bit more quality. Having a set of SHNs is good for burning to disc because if something is traded as lossless people will be sure to rip it as a wav when burning instead of any mp3. That way no more quality is lost. If someone had an mp3 sourced show they might think it's ok to burn there mp3s they have one their hard drive when they were trading it. Whenever that happens more quality is lost.

Convert to WAV. These files are small enough that they won't be enormous WAV files. That way you won't lose quality from the SHNs. There really is no need to convert these SHN files to MP3.

If this was originally mp3 and then converted into SHN, I understand that that does not improve the quality. Converting it to SHN just ensures that the highest quality recording is the one that is being traded. There's no way to verify if mp3's are from the original capture or just some randome file that has been converted back and forth from lossless to lossy. That's the point of taking radio/tv captures that were originally mp3s and converting them to lossless. Lossless allows us to trade with md5's and ffp's as a way of verifying the origin of the lossless files. The best/only way to get the original mp3s would probably be to contact the person who did the original capture of the show. I have no idea who that is.

Thanks ! I got the video back when it was first on the net and recorded the audio to a cassette. Now I can put it on CD. The So Damn Lucky performance is my favorite of the song.

A lot, if not all of these performances, are right on the money. Dave's voice sounds amazing and he's really giving it his all during this set. It really is a great little set.

The original format was RM which is a video codec - it does not state what the audio was that was originally broadcast but no doubt there were two bit rates, one for broadband and one for dial up.
Converting to .shn and posting the original files with an md5 ensures that the first generation conversion remains the one that is traded and converted. You can do what you want with the files on your own PC but keeping track of the original person's conversion and ensuring through the md5s that you have the same files is not retarded - it keeps the trading pool's integrity intact.

I think all these different shows for download though kind of defeats the purpose of the take/leave audio thread and wasn't there a lossless take/leave thread too?

Having the Some Devil songs solo from a sbd feed is a good thing, what a shame Butterfly wasn't broadcast.

The only reason I have started creating new threads for full shows is because of the take/leave thread moving so fast. You can post a full show and in 30 minutes it's already 2 pages back. With that being the case, no one will see that it's even available for download. Why go through the trouble of upping the whole show if no one is going to see it to download? I guess posting it in the Lossless thread is one idea, but I never did like that thread, just because of the fact that there really should be no need for a lossless thread. Personally, I think all trading, whether it's individual songs or full shows, should be done in a lossless format. Having that lossless thread basically says, "It's ok to trade songs in the original thread in mp3/m4a, but this new thread is for Lossless only." I see the point behind the thread, but I just think it sends an unintentional message that the original take/leave thread was ok for trading lossy formats.

I support new threads for full shows. Thanks for upping this one. I've streamed it a million times from AOL, so its great to have it on disk now.
