He could have turned the album in already, and as long as the label didn't outright say no to it, he could be off the hook for that. If that's what the Nauts were turned in as, and that got lost in the shuffle, he's still of the hook. If those sessions ever came up with anything, that is.

Ever since the whole LWS debacle, info that's gotten out has been controlled. Who knows how many finished songs there are or how many sessions we have no clue about.

I agree with Snow. In addition the "Idear" is less irritating on tBS. I am still disappointed with this track on CT.

My nine year old son refuses to listen to that version. Batson Sessions is the only Idea of you. Because of the live intro. It’s his favorite song.

The live outro from She to the intro of IOY is niiiiiice. Flows perfectly. Reminds me of BTCS transitions......it’s so smooth.

Had they done something with it in '06 commercially, it would have been a great 'juggle' to keep them on the radar. I know people groaned at it when I said it then, but this would have made a great song for a Nickelodeon movie or middle school target audience film. Musicianship for parents to dig, lyrics highly relatable for that age range (at least, as they were then).

The tune just didn't age well. 12 years on it's about a man pushing fifty with kids old enough to have their own babysitters remembering a crush on his own baby-sitter.

TIOY is a decent song and it's widely loved. Cold Play drumming is the only lame part. We miss Carter's usual awesomeness.

During the chorus (“I fall, so hard...”), Carter hits the snare on the one and three of each measure. It’s a fine drum beat and is different than any other beat Carter plays. So I see no issues with it. BUT the Cold Play drummer apparently uses that beat a lot (not sure, don’t listen to Cold Play)

Listen to the drumming in 'Clocks' by Coldplay and then the part of IOY that Monkeyman pointed out and you'll see why.

I'd say more people could take or leave it. Just because it doesn't get a lot of hate does not automatically mean it gets a lot of love. I thought it was great in '06. 13 years later, it's just there. Absolutely would not be disappointed with it being in the setlist at any show, but wouldn't be begging for it either.

The Idea of You dilemma really shows me that despite some of our frustrations about certain songs being left off albums, they actually have a pretty good pulse on what works.

Clearly the inclusion of IOY was fan service. Dave was tepid about putting it on CT, per the promo circuit. And it's funny, I loved IOY growing up..that Fenway version is amazing to me. But it does not work now.

If you look at the show flow ratings, Idea Of You is consistently averaging at least 0.7-0.8. I’d call that widely loved.

No.

Of course the theme of the song would get blown out of proportion nowadays and then stories about socks would come out about Dave if they had continued with the song the way it was originally written...but I wouldn't have had a problem if they had kept it the way it was.
