LRP and Automatic are probably my favorite two albums by them, for different reasons. I hated Automatic when it first came out. I don't think I was ready for it or really understood it--especially after Monster. But it's aged the best of any of their albums for me.

This was a good post, btw. I think I'm going to dive back in and do the same thing you did. Thanks for the nudge.
Thanks!

Fair point on LRP. I Believe is another one to make your case. That banjo intro shows they're trying to introduce some different elements and expand their sound a little.

They're very true to their style and definitely wear their hearts on their sleeves lyrically. A good mix of fun foot-stomping tracks and then introspective ballads. A little hard on first listen for everything to stick with me so I'll need to go back through each to single out favorite tracks as I'm mostly listening as background at work. I and Love and You is definitely my favorite album so far. Some great melodies on that one.

I have heard plenty of Wu-Tang over the years but never listened to an album front to back.

No doubt. You can hear/feel the dirt and grime of the city on that album.

I just finished watching Hip-Hop Evolution on Netflix and the 'NY State of Mind' episode has a really good segment on Wu-Tang and the creation of this album.

A lot of their solo stuff is incredible as well. Ghostface - Fishscale is a great one to start with if you've never heard it.

    Weightless - Becca Stevens Band

She's just awesome. Unique sense of harmony and melody. Great songs, great voice, cool covers...just great stuff. She's often categorized as jazz, but it's not. Definite jazz influences, but it's some different and more. Closer to indie stuff, but with sophisticated musical concepts...it reminds me of Andrew Bird while sounding nothing like him.

Thanks for thew reminder...forgot he had a new album coming out. Definitely give Jenny's new one a listen too.

It's pointless and will never happen, but I still would love to hear him w/ DMB. He and Dave writing together, maybe getting some vocal harmonies, violin back in the band...in my head it so fucking cool.

That would be a great collaboration, and it would be nice to hear someone who is actually great at playing violin in the band. It would also be great to see Andrew elevate Dave's lyrics game.

Feels like a predecessor to Murder Ballads since it’s a covers album of a lot of macabre songs, including Long Black Veil

this is maybe the best suggestion for a boyd replacement that I've heard. I'd like to see dmb ditch "dmb" and just tour as "dmb and friends" with people like Bird and Bela Fleck
