No Heat (though ironically have an 80s B-movie under same title) and no Fight Club...

Hang on, do you know that for a fact? Because that's the first time I've heard of anything like that, that some titles go back and forth between streaming and not.

yes, I know that for a fact because Im a netflix member for a long while and titles are on, then not on, then on again. MOvies have list dates on them when they are expiring

You can see this from the exchange just a few posts above this.

so to actually contribute something properly to the thread instead of just bitching of what's not there...

though I don't believe this is like exclusive to Netflix or anything, but something I just recently watched on there that I loved was the "Conan O'Brien Can't Stop" documentary, that was all about the road show he did before taking over the Tonight Show.
and though I've only checked out a very small sample so far, they appear to indeed have A LOT of (far as I was concerned) more obscure stuff in the comedy realm. Like there was an hour panel discussion from some film festival or something with Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Bill Hader. Also a documentary that Jamie Kennedy produced (& participated a lot in), I think it was just called "Heckler", talking to a ton of different big people in the comedy world about why fans heckle and how stand up comics have dealt with it, etc.

I'm trying Hemlock Grove. Watched the 1st episode "ok"... didn't grab me like House of Cards did (which I haven't finished yet).

I'll give it 3-4 more but I may bail on it.

    Wilfred is hysterical.

Movies do, for a fact, rotate. Ironman used to be on there, and now it's not.

Check back with us after about your 5th viewing

Likely the most unique approach to telling a story about time travel ever in a movie, I can tell you that, certainly the most clinical/scientific. But holy moly, what a mindfuck of a movie.

It's not that simple. Netflix has to quite literally "rent" the titles, in the same fashion we were all accustomed to doing for years in video stores. Yet they pay *slightly* more, and have to balance those hundreds of millions of dollars against keeping their business model alive, retaining clients, and maintaining a profit. And there are many titles that the studios simply don't make available for rent, for years - if ever. This is precisely why Netflix is sort of assuming a studio role (Arrested Development movie, House of Cards); along with Kickstarter, and other publicly funded project sources, we should see the industry change soon.

Plus studios are assholes. The creators who conceptualize the "big" movies you speak of often have no control over its ownership. Not to mention, studios are commonly buddy-buddy financially with the companies that provide network television, so there is "incentive" to not deal with Netflix at all.

Given all of this, and the tons of details we DON'T know, I'm actually thrilled that Netflix provides what it DOES. Buy the movies you love, and rely on Netflix and the like to appease your entertainment means with the more pedestrian titles.

    2 cents.

    yes.

Netflix "rents" the titles, or rather - buys a license, to show them to us, for a limited time.

Any time you search through the Netflix titles and see something you like, save it to your instant queue. It will be there forever, and there will be a column that says it will be ending soon with a date, if it is going to be ending soon...

i don't believe there's any way to predict what will be there and gone, it's just the reality of the industry right now... and it sucks sometimes - e.g., much to my dismay, it appears South Park will not be available soon.

They always seem to come back though...

I agree it's a frustrating process, but I still think it's the future... I don't know enough to speculate, but it seems like the studios may be go the way of the record companies trying to control their music in the digital age.
