Not really. I am all for paying politicians enough so that they aren't shady. Or as shady.

$4500 will do nothing to make anyone in Congress less shady. That is pocket change to most of them and pennies to anyone who wants to pay them off.

Its disingenuous and and insulting to anyone with intelligence for her or any politician to try to justify the raises they give themselves, but especially so for the completely bullshit reason of making them less susceptible to corruption.

I think Cazz's idea is that if people made more they'd be less likely to become corrupt because they're already making so much. (risk v. reward thing)

I think the counterppoint is that a lot of them are already millionaires, or will soon become millionaires, so the salary doubled won't really curb corruption.

What are you talking about? Broadcast was shuttered. They paid 6 billion dollars that was probably worth at the most a few hundred million. The tech bubble was crazy. If you added .com to a company name the stock soared. Similar to the blockchain/crypto craze right now.

For a politician not to be corrupt, the salary would have to be like $10M/year. The lobbying industry doesn't waste billions every year.

Edit: And these people aren't that charitable or great authors.

    Jesus.

As Newsom’s office noted, a law passed in the early years of California’s statehood facilitated the removal of indigenous people from their traditional lands, separated children from their families and forced Native Americans to become indentured servants as punishment for minor crimes.

In 1851, California’s first governor declared that a “war of extermination” would continue to be waged against “the Indian race” until it “becomes extinct.” The state later authorized over a million dollars in currency at the time to subsidize militia campaigns against Native Americans.

There is no amount that would do it. Certainly not an amount the taxpayer can afford. The only thing better than money is more money.

If they want to give themselves a raise, go ahead and do it, just dont insult all of us by trying to say it's to help battle corruption. Its insulting and blatantly false.

Dude is was friggin luck. He was born at a time when they were handing out money like nothing. The business he built was alight but nothing that special. Someone through sheer dumb luck always makes a boatload but they hit the lottery more than they are a great businessman. There are a dozen crypto kids out there riding around in lambos.

The president hit the lottery. He is not some great businessman, he inherited not only a fortune but a very successful business too. He would have done better if he had done nothing but put his money in the bank or the stock market. His business deals actually destroyed value. He didn't add value.

Sorry I am not impressed by parasitic/vulture capitalism, especially in light of 2008. I would never spend or waste money on a lambo. I would be too scared of getting carjacked or hitting a curb.

No amount of money will stop politicians from being corrupt. It's about power more than money.

Pay a person $100M to be a Senator they'll still take bribes if they're the type of person to take bribes, cook books if they're the type of person to cook books, engage in cronyism if...you get the idea.

If people worth millions and billions didn't want more money and/or power, the republican party wouldn't exist.

Ever consider learning how to operate a vehicle?

In all seriousness....You mentioned that you're for paying politicians an amount so that corruption/bribes are much less attractive (for lack of a better term).

At what salary do you think that is accomplished?

I would like to suggest my government pays people mortgage plan to solve the housing crisis for politicians looking to find a place to live in DC. They wouldn't need this raise. Some people, like Drakan (who I wanted his opinion on my plan) think housing problems / homelessness is funny, but I am concerned about housing issues.

    Quote:
The Pew survey shows that a majority of Republicans and GOP-leaning voters say they are at least sometimes “embarrassed” (53 percent) and “concerned” (59 percent) about the things Trump says.

Large numbers also say they are at least sometimes “exhausted” (41 percent), “angry” (37 percent) and “insulted” (32 percent). Twenty-two percent say they are sometimes “frightened” by Trump’s comments.

The numbers are basically unprecedented. Pollsters have asked in the past whether people are embarrassed by Trump, but the numbers haven’t been as high. A February 2017 McClatchy-Marist College poll showed that 12 percent of Republicans said they were embarrassed by Trump’s conduct, for instance. Other polls have asked whether people are “proud” or “embarrassed” of Trump, and Republicans overwhelmingly pick “proud.”

But those questions were binary, in which Republicans, perhaps understandably, chose the Trump side. Pew appears to have elicited people’s true feelings by asking a more nuanced question. And given the choice between “often,” “sometimes,” “rarely” and “never,” many Republicans choose at least “sometimes.”

The amount of money it takes to run is what keeps more (good) people out of politics, not the pay once you get elected.

Jesus it's not like we are putting people in 2,000 sq ft homes. They are getting apartments and not forever, just until they get on their feet.

chronically homeless people cost the government a lot of money when they're living on the street, because of services like emergency room visits and jail time.

HUD estimates that annual cost as between $30,000 and $50,000 per person.

Housing them simply costs a lot less.

If a homeless person needs medical attention you tie up firefighters and cops. You will probably have the firefighters/emts show up in a SUV and maybe even a fire truck, plus the ambulance and one or two cop cars. Housing homeless people reduces those calls. Thats a lot of resources.

When is comes to social issues Americans(mostly on the right) would rather judge and moralize than solve problems and save people and money. These are the same people that voted for Trump.
