I still think the most DMB way to introduce the new violinist is to just get up on stage with them in May and introduce them a few songs in.

I’m still holding that they’ll pick a replacement. As several have said, it’s too critical of an instrument not too replace.

Could Bruce’s comment about the longer the album takes the better mean that Boyd may return? Doubt it but just throwing that idea out there.

I don't think that an album being better equates to Boyd returning. He is going to be on the album regardless IMO.

Old news by now, but the Warehouse website and Email release clarify that it's Dave Matthews (no friends specified) that will perform in April. We'll have to wait until the tour to see if the mystery violin shows up.

Yeah, this will either be Dave solo or Tim will join. Definitely nothing new. Seems like Dave plays these type of shows a few times a year.

If it’s confirmed as a Dave solo show then Tim will not join.

Also, not sure how Dave announcing a show is “nothing new”.

I don't know about recent shows, but for awhile there, Dave was advertised as solo, but Tim would be playing alongside him at the gig. Particularly with these benefit shows.. Not saying you're wrong here.. just saying it wouldn't be out of left field for Tim to be there too. Could go either way, honestly.

I know Tim has been on tour with TR3. If he's on tour still on that date then it's obviously a definite Dave solo show.

    Live Trax 10, Everyday.

I know musically the band can take it to the next level, but it's not going to be the same this tour.

Man... amazing how many times I can write “I don’t think he’s coming back” and people still interpret that as me thinking he’s coming back.

Of course I HOPE he comes back. You don’t?

We’re in a thread where we speculate about Boyd’s absense. Part of that speculation includes the possibility of a return. Not sure why that bothers so many.

Honestly, I’m ambivalent about him coming back. As long as they have a violinist on stage, it’s fine.

Your posts just seem to keep positing scenarios as if you’re overly hopeful he’ll come back whether that’s the reality of how you feel or not. My point was it’s not not out of left field for anyone to think that no matter how many times you post a disclaimer. That’s not meant to pounce on you about it. It’s all about how it comes across.

No need to keep digging that hole.

I have posted a ton of different scenarios over the past several weeks. Only a couple of those were scenarios that included Boyd returning.

If speculation makes you uncomfortable then maybe this isn’t the right thread for you.

Sorry I got you all worked up there big guy.. I was just trying to help you understand why he said that. But the bolded really makes my point. We don't always get our points across clearly or legibly and it boils down to how it seems, so he wasn't off base in his supposition. I never said it was accurate.. only you know how you feel. I think that's a fair observation to both of you.

If you want to take it personally, then fine. I'll just say it wasn't meant as you seem to be taking it.

    Carry on.

I hate to say it but if I had my preference it would be Boyd is replaced by an extremely talented violinist and it blows the band and fans away at how good things can sound. Maybe that opens Boyd’s eyes and causes him to practice and give more to the band so he can come back and be on point, or it doesn’t. Either way we end up with a quality and consistent violin player, which has not been the case for a while now.

I’d love it if the band introduced their new violinist by opening the first show of the tour with Bartender’s violin drone intro, but then jump into Seven just give the ultimate fuck you to the fans.

It would be if those 16-year-olds hadn't grown up to be in their early to mid 20s by now...

Also, if we're speculating I'm thinking it'll be hologram Boyd, powered by a drone that's patched into the audio system via Bluetooth and contains the best version of every DMB song Boyd has ever played, along with tactical "screech" that will allow the track to jump to some of his best solos "seemlessly" as needed when Dave needs some tea or the band needs a quick breather. Win for everybody, and the young fans will dig the tech.
