Disney live action movie thread

Didn't know if we had a thread for the Disney live action movies (Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast were amazing).

They just released the first people cast for the Aladdin live action remake.

http://variety.com/2017/film/news/al...23-1202496767/

I'm thrilled for Will Smith as Genie. Ever since they started doing these movies, my fiance and I had a hard time trying to think of someone who could play a role made so perfectly famous by Robin Williams. It had to be someone who could give it the same charm without feeling like a cheap knockoff. I can't believe I didn't think of Will Smith but I think he's perfect for the role.

I don't know much about the Aladdin and Jasmine actors. What are your thoughts?

Haven't seen Jungle Book but Beauty & The Beast is fantastic. Idk about Will Smith as the Genie. Those are tough shoes to fill.

They should have gotten The Rock to play Genie.

They wanted to use Robin Williams but there's this weird thing in his contract where they have to wait 25 years after his death before they can use his old Genie recordings. There's apparently just a whole bunch of leftover material, and it's how they made the two direct to video sequels.

Thanks for that info. That's a weird thing to ha e in a contract. Could they not negotiate with his estate to change it?

Lion king with John Oliver as zazu sounds fun.

Dumbo is basically batman returns with burton directing and Keaton and Devito on board.

    Is this for real?

    Hadn't heard this yet.

Beauty And The Beast is probably 2nd best movie I've ever seen.

Really surprised at the praise for beauty and the beast. I thought it was completely underwhelming, borderline bad

I found Gaston incredibly underwhelming, the animated characters were too weird, they changed all the music for the worse, not to mention Emma Watson's unlistenable auto tuned singing. The beast character was cool, and I liked that they gave Belle's dad some depth, but on the whole it was a huge swing and miss for me. Really disappointed me actually because I've got a buttload of nostalgia for the original.

    maybe this is the "problem".

Not that it's a problem, but I'm lacking the more accurate word right now. I don't care for the original at all. This one? i thought it was phenomenal.

I thought Emma was fine as Belle but there were moments where I didn't get the same genuineness from her as you got from the cartoon. I thought Gaston was fine. He had a great look, and he seemed more cunning in the live action than the more arrogant, cartoony version.

I just loved how they deepened the story. Belle's background and Beast's background paralleling to the deaths of their mothers was quite beautiful. I am also glad they added depth to the house servants. "Days in the Sun" was such a great song to add to the movie, as was "Evermore."

What I like about these live action movies is that they will got a tad darker than the cartoons, which I like. I'm excited to see how they do that with Lion King and Aladdin.
