For being Irvine---I had a great time tonight! I kept my expectations for the Venue (acoustics) really low (and went in expecting to hear all BW again) --- which allowed me to enjoy the show!

Thankfully, I'm off today! (I'm tired & don't have a voice right now!) lol

Great setlist, at least on paper. Hopefully it bodes well for Camden.

Damnnnn, I went to bed as Jimi Thing was being played, just took a look at the remainder of the setlist... VERY strong show from that point on (except for Y&M)

Just checking in after a great show. So much fun. Always great to see old friends, even if I missed a few (Sorry Heidi ) and make some new friends. Don't care how the show looked on paper, when in reality it is black type on white paper, the actual show was great. Boyd was on fire tonight and the Jimi jam was top notch.

For all you that don't know Billies was the set closer, but Boyd started in on Two Step after Y&M. Oooops Toups. Then DDTW was supposed to be after Baby Blue, not Granny.

there's a difference between wanting those songs and putting yourself in a bad mood because they don't play those songs. i want to hear Say Goodbye, Pig, Warehouse, etc. as much as the next fella but i'll still enjoy a show without them. when people have problems with setlists, i stand by my statement that its his or her problem, not Dave or the band's.

but anyway, this shit really doesn't matter. great weekend of shows in Cali. i had a great time at Chula, some people had a great time at Irvine, and a lot of people had a great time at both. and that is all that matters.

Well, I had a thoroughly good time! Great idea to come in from KY for the show and some much needed R&R.

Two Step was superb, and Granny was a pleasant surprise (1st time I've heard it live). Thought a few of the BW tracks were a bit rushed but all in all a fine show.

    Can't say thanks enough Anne!

Thanks Scott. That story about PM is one of my most treasured DMB moments. PM will forever remind me of my son and me at his first show.

Aaagh! Can't believe I missed the show! My tickets fell through.
In the end, we were going to have to spend >$150 for not great seats. Given that there was the chance of him playing the exact same setlist as Wednesday , didn't want to risk it. Decided we would save the $ and use it for the Gorge next year!!

Hope you all had a great time. Looked like a fun show!

That is a bummer you didn't go to the show, but now I don't feel so bad for not seeing you. I think saving the $$$ for Gorge was good call, even if the show was pretty damn good. Dave was in a great mood and Boyd ripped it up last night.

Hopefully out paths will cross in the near future, DMB or otherwise.

One more rant and then I'll go, I didn't like that whole "swearing song" at the end of Jimi Thing. Dave is probably aware that people bring their little ones and he himself has a couple of little ones and little ones don't need to hear that filth. It's one thing when Dave uses one bad word in a song but to say three or four swear words about ten times in a row is a little much I think. It did'nt ruin the whole night for me (I don't even have little ones) but knowing that there were a few present made me question that move.

Super special thanks to Ben, who called me at the last minute to invite me to attend this show with him. Although there were a few flubs during last nights show, I think it was better than Chula! Surprisingly enough!

Oh come on, it's a freakin' rock concert. People are smoking, Dave's lyrics are full of adult themes, etc. If you don't think you can handle your kid hearing "naughty" words then don't bring them imo.

I take my kid to concerts all the time. I know what she is going to see. I discuss it with her before and after. They're called teachable moments.

As for the show last night, I thought it was outstanding although the repeats are a little annoying for those of us who were at Chula. I understand repeating 2 or 3 new songs, but Jimi? Meh, whatever. I don't really care, thought it was outstanding. Chula and Irvine were both incredible with my only slight negatives being Chula's encore and the high number of repeats.

I hear your argument/concern, and I took my 4 year old to Chula and was concerned about the end of Jimi. Even if he had stayed awake and heard the SMF outro....

like this gentleman mentioned, that is when you have to be a parent and discuss with your child what is acceptable. You can't stop people from drinking or smoking around you, so a few f-bombs isn't really going to make or break an evening if you have done your work prior to the show.

When you make the choice to include your family in a some what unpredictable setting, whether it be a concert, sporting event, or other large scale gathering, you have to lay the foundation before you get to the event. Then while at the event, decide when and where the limit is and when it is time to go.

Thank you Aubrie. You totally bailed me out from being that weird guy that goes to see DMB by himself, or with his mother-in-law. (which would have happened if you didn't go.) So not only did I get a great show, I was able to enjoy it with someone I consider a very close, personal friend.

but anyway, this shit really doesn't matter. great weekend of shows in Cali. i had a great time at Chula, some people had a great time at Irvine, and a lot of people had a great time at both. and that is all that matters.
See...I don't think that was the point Dmbzilla was trying to make. I'm sure the vast majority of people on this fan site know not to go into dave shows with expectations to hear particular songs, but at the same time, I think it's a good thing to show how we feel when he picks a questionable song....ie Smooth Rider and Bayou in Alpine. Don't forget it's the fans who made Dave what he is today. He hooked us with Remember Two Things, Under the Table, Crash, and Before these Crowded Streets...he's kinda like a drug dealer but with songs.

Re: ***Official Irvine 2009 Tour Thread***

Ok, I never come on this site to bitch about anything but this past weekend at Irvine was so ridiculous that I had to say something.

I guess I need to ask about 'lawn etiquette'. In the 23 shows I've been to across the country since 2000-whether it be seats or lawn, I've always stood up for the entire show. I love dancing and singing along. Also in those 23 shows, I have not once ever been told to sit down, since everyone else stands anyways that if I sat I wouldn't be able to see from most vantage points.

I know that the rules for Irvine parking lots were a lot stricter than Chula Vista, another reason I didn't even attempt to tailgate, but are the rules at the venue different too? My friends and I had a front row spot on the lawn for one hour before the show started and were standing up, and as soon as the show started a handful of people started screaming at us to sit down. As in 'Sit the F**k down you f***king assholes before I make you!' and threw food and garbage at us and one other person near us who was also standing. Needless to say, the rest of the lawn was standing, it only seemed to be our section behind us that was sitting. We were then told by another person about 6 songs in 'she's pregnant so you need to sit down'. If you're pregnant at a DMB show I think us standing is the least of your problems with everything you're inhaling around you.

Eventually we moved halfway through the set to where more people were standing but I was seriously shocked that anyone would be sitting down or yell at us to sit for that matter. So were we the ones in the wrong here and being rude for not sitting? This problem has never happened to any of us in the past no matter where we sat, unless this is some Irvine thing. Keep in mind none of us were drunk or beligerent or waving our arms around or anything, just standing and dancing in place. Whether it's the rules or not, none of us will be returning to this venue. If I wanted to sit for an entire show I'd get tickets to see Celine Dion. I am there to have a good time and am forever dancing with the Groogrux King.

Sorry you had a crappy experience. Sounds like you were in front of idiots, actually. And if you're a pregnant lady on the lawn - why not just sit further back where its not going to be a problem.

Your experience is just one of the many, many reasons I refuse to ever do lawn tickets.

Not sure what to sure what to say Jessica, except welcome to LA shows. I understand your frustration, feelings and overall sh*tty experience. I agree that you should not have to sit if you don't want to at show, and you made the right call moving, even though you had no real reason to move. At Hollywood Bowl in 2007, I saw entire sections sitting for the whole show both nights. Those were some of the best shows too. People in LA want to be entertained, they won't get up and have fun unless they know the song. Hence the hit/radio friendly shows typical of LA area shows.

To let you know that you weren't alone in your bewilderment of people sitting on Sunday night. When Squirm started, it seemed like the entire venue sat down. Orch, loge, terrace, lawn, everyone. There were even people in Loge 5, where I was, that sat all night. I am not surprised by this anymore, seeing that I see DMB pretty much only here in Socal. But I don't let it ruin my concert time. If you want to sit, by all means sit. That is their choice, but it is not fun nor comfortable to be threatened for not sitting. So I understand your statement about not wanting to return to Irvine. If you change your mind as the days, weeks, and months pass, maybe think about getting seats next time or hooking up with some local Ants to maybe make your next visit more pleasurable.

yeah, we made a decision right there to never get lawn again. this was a last minute add on to our trip and lawn was all that was left for the 4 of us so i'll just be sure to plan well in advance next time for a seat. the fans in the parking lot made up for the ones on the lawn, everyone was really nice and cool to talk to as we were leaving the lot so we don't hate you, local Irvine fans
