So...people like the most famous member/lead singer of a band so they vote for him...weird. If the implication is that he's somehow not talented enough or not RRHOF caliber, the guy's in with two bands, I think that speaks for itself and is unimpeachable.

I don’t really have any standards I just never thought Nirvana was very good, I like some songs but most just sound like angry teenage notebook stuff and this is coming from someone that grew up listening to emo lol.

Even if Nirvana wasn't theoretically good their impact on music alone should get them in. They literally changed the entire face of music, culture and style. What other band has done that other than Elvis or the Beatles?

Essentially what the Rock Hall amounts to is a museum of music history. You get inducted, you are officially a note in the never ending history of music. When looking at who gets inducted I think you have to look at the overall impact the artist/band had on music history. Which can come in so many different forms, be it a song that stands the passage of time, a band that started a cultural revolution, or just a flat out great band. You can break music history into so many factions, decades and eras. That said, it’s impossible to talk about the 90’s without talking about Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. They absolutely belong in the Rock Hall.

I think DMB's lack of a definable genre hurts, you can point to a lot of different bands and say "oh they really helped usher in this phase/era" or they defined a particular genre....and DMB can't really do that. Now is that the only reason they are not in? No, I genuinely think some people don't like them/their music. DMB certainly ticks just about every other box that I could think of when it comes to getting inducted, that's why they will eventually get in.

That’s where you have to look at their overall impact. In DMB’s case it’s the live show. They have been one of the most consistently successful live acts in the last 20-30 years. That certainly stands for something.

Phish has been doing it longer (touring) and hasn’t even been nominated (I don’t believe). Yes, DMB has a lot more going for them off the road. But they are both very polarizing bands, either ya love them or hate them...there aren’t a lot of people in between. I think that is what will always be DMBs biggest issue getting in.

In my opinion this is a good thing, not sticking to a genre, writing based on creative patterns and not sticking to one thing, having a huge range of feel and emotion. Not being easily defined is one of the best things about them and says a lot about their songwriting. Unfortunately DMB management keeps putting out soccer mom singles one after another which leads people unfamiliar with their catalog to believe they are only that.

I had a feeling DMB wouldn't have gotten in this year either had they made the nominee list. Be interesting to see who else the hall values more than DMB for induction next year.

Dale Crover was barely in the band. Unless you mean Chad Channing, in which case he was thoroughly mediocre and Grohl was way better. and this is from someone who doesn’t like Grohl as a person very much.

Also wasn’t Nirvana more or less a joke band that started off doing covers then Kurt threw some lyrics that mean nothing and people ate it up because it was different at the time

Are DMB relevant anymore? They've been playing smaller venues every year it seems. Going from multi-night runs to undersold single night stands at popular venues.

The Rock Hall is a great place to visit and see things, but it's by no means perfect.

As a musician, I think hes a terrible choice. But with his production work, and everything he has done to help push music technology forward he gets a pass from me for "influence on other artists". Much of modern music could be very different without his influence.
