Placeholder thread for once we have all the studio cuts, whether that's on June 8th, or before.

Re: Rank the studio versions of the songs on "Come Tomorrow"

    Really Great:

    She
    Come On Come On
    When I'm Weary
    Virginia In The Rain
    Again and Again

    Great:
    Idea Of You
    Black and Blue Bird
    Samurai Cop
    Do You Remember

    Okay:
    Bdkdkdkd
    Can't Stop
    Here On Out
That Girl Is You (much better live)

    Forgettable
    Come Tomorrow

The album is a 7.5-8/10...as I wrote in the other thread, if She and Come on Come on are the new direction of this band, then I could not be happier.

I don’t completely agree with you, but I do think that a fair barometer is how many of these tunes will get regular live play in 3 years. That’s not necessarily a lofty standard given how deep in the catalog they go.

If we look at AFTW, I would guess that Belly Belly sticks. Sweet and If Only on occasion. Drunken Soldier as a rare play. From this album, I’m going to guess Idea and Can’t Stop since they’re 12 years old and Sam Cop. Virginia on occasion. Truthfully, I’m not sure how many more. Black & Blue and Again & Again have seemingly already been shelved

There's a few solid listens that could grow on me with time, but what the hell happened to the band we all fell in love with? There isn't a song on this album that will make it in their Top 25, maybe even their top 50. And the one great song, Idea of You, isn't even as good as the live recordings out there. And somehow the other great song that was recorded, Shotgun, was left off!

Just so disappointed. I wish they hadn't ditched Lillywhite, again.

And somehow the other great song that was recorded, Shotgun, was left off!

Just so disappointed. I wish they hadn't ditched

    Lillywhite, again.

Aftw was atrocious. He wouldn't have made any different

Their original saxophonist died, their original pianist left the band, and their violinist also is no longer in the band. Roi and Peter Griesar were huge contributors to the writing of early DMB music. This, in addition to the band being 25 years older is why there is such a different sound. You kind of alluded to this, but it's possible for it to be good music without sounding like albums from the mid 90's. I get that's why many of us started listening to the band, but to expect to hear UUTAD/Crash/BTCS is one of the most naive views that many on this board has. I think people get too caught up in hearing the old band in the new songs versus just enjoying the music... which is why it's so polarizing.

That being said, I personally enjoy listening to this album (overall) more than AWFTW, BW, Stand Up, and Everyday. I still wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but overall a very good a listen with only a couple of songs that I don't like.

Awesome that fans had the opportunity to ask Mark about DMB. Hopefully he didn't catch the red glare of anyone else involved.

See, this is what people want. Most of the people on this board know they're never going to sound like the 90's again, and aren't expecting it. We/they don't like a lot of the new music because it's BAD, not because it doesn't sound like the 90's.
I'm fine with the new sound, I just wish Dave would write better songs.
