My senior year of high school, a group from my film studies class went to Sundance. One of the films I attended with a couple other girls from the group was this experimental movie called Pine Flat. It was basically a series of 10 or so minute static shots of nature with a kid somewhere in frame or you could hear them in the distance. I've never watched A Clockwork Orange, but just listened to an interview with Malcolm McDowell and now, I'm curious. I've heard it's a pretty messed up movie. What's so messed up about it? Is it really that gruesome of a film?

Relative to the things in TV/Movies now, no not at all.

It’s not really gruesome in terms of gore, but it does have an intense rape scene that doesn’t pull any punches.

And from a thematic angle, you’re following a protagonist who is an absolutely despicable, evil human being, but Kubrick also questions the ethics of his legal punishment. It’s a challenging film that asks uncomfortable questions about civilized society’s lust for vengeance.
