Re: The Gorge 2012

Hey all, will be returning to the Gorge this year, was there in 2010 and had a blast. Camping at Wildhorse this year, but we don't think we'll be arriving until the afternoon on Friday. My group is flying in from NY on Tuesday and camping until Friday in the Olympics. Does anyone advise against arriving on Friday? In 2010 we came on Thursday and had a blast at the Gorge premiere camping area, but we want to see as much of the Olympics as possible. Any advice would be appreciated!

That's my usual game too. So nice to be untethered for a few days!

How were the good ol' Boat Races? I grew up in Yakima so we used to roll to the Tri-cities and check those out.

So are you guys hosting the show? Any openers? A couple weeks back Dave Shul (formerly of Spearhead) had been playing some shows with them - looked pretty awesome. It's too bad that guy go nudged out of Spearhead and replaced by some guy taht always has his t-shirt off and wears a moehawk and looks like he's from a bud light commercial....oh spearhead...where have you gone?

And Thank you by the way, that's really nice of you to offer free tix. Appreciate it!

no, we aren't hosting...but we do a lot of stuff with Showbox, and I think we were running a contest for the show through the magazine? Not sure, but the show isn't selling well, so I got asked if me or any friends want to go. I would go...but I'm a "single parent" now and gotta get home to the dog (and don't wanna turn around and drive back up), plus I need all my sleep this week, don't want to be tired come Saturday morning. So I am happy to provide 5 warm bodies to fill the room Should be a good time, I caught a little bit of their set last year at the Fest, but was too sick to stick around long, they are fun! I don't know about openers.

no problemo! just want to share the love when it comes my way!

also...about the spearhead thing...must be a result of the "sell out" of Franti...he used to be so full of angst and stuff...now he's all butterflies and rainbows...it's kinda weird. and if it's authentic, cool. happy he's happy...but sometimes...is it just for the fact that it sells better to sing happy songs than ones about the truth of the fucked up system we live in?

I agree, but i also think that its hard for any art form to put the "truth" in a form that people will accept it

maybe...I think at some point, when you've obtained enough success, you somehow loose that angst and gain a different perspective. when you aren't struggling against the man for your next paycheck, and are comfortable, suddenly singing about it becomes hypocritical, and rainbows and butterflies ensue...

I also really like Yell Fire
Maybe he just really loves Coronas and hanging out at the baech, BoyEEEEE.

Yell Fire is very good, as is Everyone Deserves Music. Even All Rebel Rockers was pretty good. The Sound of Sunshine is when he went off the deep end. When I go to a spearhead show and most of the crowd is 14 year old girls it really makes me cringe. Spearhead was truly one of my favorites of all time, still are when it comes to the older stuff.

But if I was rolling in the dough I probably wouldn't be all pissed off about a bunch of stuff anymore either.

yeah...I haven't even listened to the sound of sunshine...I was turned off by whatever single came off that on the first listen, and can tolerate most of All Rebel Rockers... I am sad I only saw them once...opening for mayer at the key a couple years ago...would have loved to have seen them back before the tweens became clued in to his existence.

Saw a two night stand in PDX back in 2005, front and center on the rail both nights. Still one the best concert experiences of my life. Franti came down into the crowd and met everyone who wanted to meet him - Super KEWL.

Plus saw them with Meryl for a two night NYE run in Vancouver BC - really awesome shows that night as well. Last time we saw them though, maybe a year or so ago, it was a completely different vibe.

he is really good about that. he even did that at the key...sung a couple songs up in the audience in different sections, and then hung out at the bottom of the stage to meet anyone after their set that wanted a hug/picture/handshake. chris got one of his picks. would be way cool to be :railed (that needs an emoticon me thinks) for a show back then.

This may have been answered already, but I'm too lazy to go through this entire thread. Does anyone know of the best places to stay if you're not camping I just want somewhere as close to the Gorge as possible of course, but also a place with something to do during the day so I'm not twiddling my thumbs all day until I head out to the venue.

We're spending three nights there, so plan on staying at Lake Crescent Tuesday, the Hoh Forest Wednesday, and Kalaloch Thursday. Also hope to see Hurricane Ridge Tuesday or Wednesday. I lived in Seattle for two months last year, and did the 101 loop in one day, stopped at Hurricane Ridge, Hoh, and one of the beaches right of 101, but only had about an hour at each. Looking forward to actually exploring a bit this year!
