Does anyone know of a way or know of what is going on with Boyds Legal Discussion right now. Like when court dates are, things of that nature? I am just really curious to see what happens to him.

The lawsuit was posted in here a while back. If you find that, maybe it has a case number you can look up the schedule for.

Anyone notice that Ann Marie Calhoun was listed on the 'nac for that Hollywood Bowl Squirm (which I freaking loved by the way), and also COCO? I thought she was mentioned in this thread as a possible replacement...

I hope, hope, hope she had an opportunity to chat with Dave about the possibilities...

Anyone think this guy would be a good replacement for Boyd? He has been pretty nasty on American's Got Talent! Brian King Joseph. Check it out. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sMc_JHuWSD0

Not sure if serious, but it's a hard pass for me. Gimmicky and pitchy as hell. I want the musical performance above choreography and sideshow gimmicks.

Nooooope. He's not even good at "lip syncing" his violin. Misses the first pluck when he's at the judges table. Hard pass.

She's the best choice to me given her background and musical interests. While I see she's worked with a lot of different artists, her early "home" vids are her jamming on jamband tunes. It's music she loves and knows.

That said, people need to be prepared for a huge difference in the violin sound of the band if they get new high-level player that is allowed to be themselves (as I'd expect). Boyd was a the perfect violinist for band for quite a while, but he had a unique approach and sound that others aren't likely to replicate. For instance, there's probably nothing that LeRoi played that Jeff couldn't, but they didn't want to have him exactly copping Roi's parts or doing his best impression. Jeff was hired to play the structured parts (which he and Rashawn have tweaked over the years) and then to play with his own voice. That said, he regularly tips his hat to Roi. But Roi was a near infinitely more advanced player than Boyd...as Ann Marie would be. Any violin replacement would be similar in that they won't be just playing everyone's favorite Boyd stuff or his best solos, they are going to play with their own voice...more and more, the longer they stay with the band.

Not that most folks don't get this.

I would find that tremendously exciting.

The last thing I want out of any potential replacement is for them to step up, play the solos, then go off to the side and vape. I'd want them to dig in and make the roll their own, and perhaps expand the influence of the violin on the sound.

Definitely, but I think some folks are somewhat "tuned" to the sound and style of Boyd and maybe taken aback when a "better" player steps into the role. Especially for those folks that have always focused on the violin sound and parts with DMB.

Could be alright. I’ve watched some of his other videos. Dude can play (to my basic knowledge of violin). Not on an Ann Marie level, but still. Unfortunately he appears to have a medical condition that sounds like it will limit his remaining time playing. Also already does some Boyd-like mannerisms

Don’t think it’s fair to label him gimmicky when he’s on a show trying to draw the most attention to his performance. Hell, Tim still likes to play gimmicky from time to time. Could be the next step in the band’s evolution if he brought an act like that

I see what you are saying, but I think people would be okay with the "better" playing.

Roi was great, but I think people quickly got used to Jeff's style. As long as they are talented, I think they will be welcomed to the band.

I think most people got used to Jeff's style but once in a blue moon I'll still see someone say "Jeff sucks" which is just so factually inaccurate when they're saying that more so because he doesn't fit the same role that Roi did. I definitely think that, if a far more talented violinist joined the band, people would have similar reactions.

IMO the band's lineup right now sounds wonderful. They don't need Boyd, and they don't need a violinist.

Now, if they added a virtuosic violinist, would that sound good? Undeniably it would. But I don't miss a violinist.

    Glad you enjoy it.

I listened to this lineups version of PIG and then went back and listened to a version from 2002 and cried myself to sleep.

Reading through this thread for the first time and it is amazing how quickly everything changed when the accusation officially came out. That and the way some people talked about Boyd's impact on the group makes it sound like this was the his band the entire time. Groups evolve, sounds change. If people aren't going to shows because he's out of the band then it makes it easier for those of us who still enjoy the group to get tix. Gracias.

Loved the sound the band produced on tour outside of the wall of sound songs that you can't hear horns or any layers (Rapunzel really sounds like shit). Unfortunately it was met with the most questionable song selection tour since maybe 2005. And not because of Come Tomorrow, but in away because of it because of the heavy dose of Mark Batson back into our lives, through old songs, and sometimes even appearances on stage.

Exactly, I have this debate with my friends now when some of them say that the violin is essential to their sound. I agree on some sounds that it is (LIOG, Nancies, and several others) but to bring someone in to just fill that void and not bring their own element to the band which helps them develop...I'd honestly rather have the version we have now. I know that's not totally your point BTW.

Boyd just went live on Instagram for a few seconds and said he would be back on stage soon in Canada...I can't imagine he means the 12/8 show? It was a weird stream, maybe a minute, from a ceremony honoring Billy Crystal.

It was really weird..and sad. Hope he’s getting the help he needs. I’m fine with him away from the band...actually, I’m fine with him out of the band altogether.
