Hope to keep this up and get a round closer to 70 by the end of the summer. All of the mechanics are there and I'm hitting GIR at an absurdly high rate. Just have to put it all together for 18 holes instead of 15.
You’ll play better if you stop worrying about putting.

My putting has actually been pretty good. There's just a couple of holes where I'll crush a drive, overthink my wedge shot/9 iron in and end up putting the ball in a tough spot to get up and down. I really don't know how scratch golfers do it.

I guess you have to find the time to practice regularly that I just don't have, but I'd definitely say what has taken the most strokes off of my game as been really analyzing my typical miss when it comes to long irons. I've put myself in a lot of good situations in par 5's getting strokes back from this. Seems simple, but I didn't think a whole lot before regarding those shots

Westover and Shannondell in Norristown. Not very long or hard courses by any imagination and good places to work on mechanics.

I believe you know the area, so I will say that I usually hate Shannondell. I usually struggle with my 3 wood (as said) and long irons so having to take them off the tee for some of the dog leg par 4s would be a luck of the draw, but did a great job of putting the ball in good spots off the tee when I was there yesterday.

I thought I saw you say something about making a bunch of 10’. It’s just not reality.

Course management is so hard to figure out. There is definitely a time to bang it as far down range as you can, but I still believe there is a time and place to lay back to set up a better angle on approach.

I think I put in the other thread, forgetting this one exists, that from 15+ feet I just wasn't having any luck sinking birdie putts. Which is still true and I realize statistically it's a low chance, it's just shitty because I'm putting a lot of good strokes on the putts and having tons of near makes.

I'm hopeful I'll have a round soon where I can just sink a few and put myself in position for a sub 75 round.

You definitely need to capitalize on those rounds where you make a couple.

My biggest pet peeve with my game is that I seem to shoot the same score no matter how I play. I think I actually lock in better when I make an early bogey or double than if I make an early birdie.

    Good playing Gonzo

I was a trainwreck for the first 7 holes on Saturday, 8-18 only missed two GIR. I'm not at the overall scores I'd like to be at yet but it takes me a while every year, feel like 8-18 is something to build from.

Officially on wait list for Maketewah. Just got done doing a full Ross restoration, so I’m guessing the wait list is pretty long. Get 1 round per month as long as I’m on the wait list. Cannot wait.

Fuck yeah bois I’m so excited. I drove the cart for my lady today and actually hit two drives, two wedge shot, and putted out one hole in a boot.

Hopefully in 2 weeks I’ll be in an ankle brace I can actually swing a club and play.

I hit balls for the first time all year. Irons were really good. Some were a bit heavy but it was a mat so hard to tell if they were fat or steep. Driver was tougher to get going but I finished with 3 bombs in a row. Playing next weekend and hoping to sneak out one day this week.

Sounds like some good mojo all around.

I’m in the gutter right now. Swing is all out of whack. Happened as soon as I committed to getting new clubs and now in limbo trying to fix myself before I get fit.

Played in a shamble at Stonewall yesterday, Noles I know you the course, we were on the North. Anyway my buddy hit a hole in one from 135. We saw it land, roll for a second and disappear by the flag. We were screaming and running around like maniacs, it was an awesome moment. Also Matt Ryan was there as he's a local and involved in the charity.

Picked up 6 TM Tour Response with the stripe last week. Don’t think I’ll move away from the TP5x Pix until they’re gone, but it is definitely the best alignment tool I’ve found.

Definitely worth a try if you’re struggling on the greens. Super easy to line up, and instant feedback.

Re: In need of some golf tips...

I am playing for the first time this year on Sunday morning. Question for the group: If you are not really sharp or struggling with your game do you hit the clubs that are the safest and will probably result in the best score that day or do you hit the clubs that you feel like you should hit assuming you will hit a good shot. For example, the first hole is a par 5 about 530. I could hit a five iron off of the tee, then another 5 iron and have a pitching wedge in. Worst case scenario is I will make a 6 and most likely I will make 5. On the other hand I feel like I should be hitting driver on a par 5 and give myself a chance to get there in two or at least near the green to get up and down for birdie. That brings in the possibility of making a big number because there is OB on both sides of the hole. So which do I choose?

I'm basically going through these thoughts right now. My game is the worst it's been in a long while consistency-wise. I am choosing to play smart to begin my rounds (i.e. going 4i off #2 which is a par 5). My thought process is to try to keep my round together. If it ends up not working, then I adjust back to playing the clubs I would normally play because at that point, I'm likely not playing for a good score.

I would just hit what you’re comfortable with then. Might change a few times over 18 holes.

After Boston it might be, most great public golf courses in MA are in / near the Cape and central MA. Our area is the best of MA but the golf options aren't anything special.

The best golf in Plymouth, and arguably the best public golf in the state, is Pinehills. There are two courses a Nicklaus design and a Jones design and each is in the top 10 every year for golf in MA.

    https://golfweek.usatoday.com/lists/...-golf-courses/

I've played both multiple times and they are very good but not necessarily my favorite in the state, different talking point but there are lots of New England courses that blow them out of the water in other states. The holes at Pinehills are good but lack character and there are no interesting views. Boston has Granite Links which is close enough to the courses imo and obviously you can't compare Boston to Plymouth.

In case Testaverde sees this post I mean for public golf

They do look beautiful. My wife takes lessons ever since her company partnered with the PGA. Maybe I’ll tag along
