Your post here and mine that you were responding to are speaking to the fanbase as a whole and I agree with you for the majority, for me personally the production makes very little difference for this band specifically

Echoing other comments. Didn't pre-order and won't but buying it at all, just streaming. Still looking forward to it, but they easily could have gotten me for an album purchase or two with a bonus disc or a deluxe version on vinyl or something with additional tracks.

I preorder most things - Games, albums, whatever. It's not necessarily a "Limited" thing for me, but I like just ordering, not thinking about it, and then it shows up.

It takes exclusive bonus tracks to get me to preorder anything, don't care at all about the format of the physical media and how limited that aspect of it may be, but they will get me every time if there's actual exclusive music included.

Poll is definitely missing the option of, who buys albums?

I'm a vinyl guy, so I do buy albums, but not new DMB albums. Still on the hunt for UTTAD on vinyl.

I have Apple Music. No reason to pay anything extra for this.

I can't even remember the last album I bought, unless you count the 14 copies of Come Tomorrow that came with my tickets.

    Ha, true

I've never gotten into the vinyl thing but maybe at some point, is it possible to be a YouTube guy? If so, I'm that

That's the reissue, not the original vinyl version without Roi.

    Exactly.

I don't understand the outrage from people here who are upset that they're not being pushed to buy a physical copy of an album they don't want to get a live bonus CD.

If you want a physical copy, it's there for you. Otherwise, it'll be streaming on all your favorite platforms.

Edit: to clarify, I'm not necessarily advocating spending money on this. I'm just confused at even entertaining the hypothetical that you just won't listen to it.

I think he meant that you listen to it, it sucks, you don't plan on listening to it again, so why buy it?

Yep, I buy that. So this is really saying "I'm against pre-ordering because I won't buy until I know I'll like the album." Which, sure. I guess my very biased take is c'mon, this is DMB. Who cares if you'll listen a bunch, why not support one of your favorite bands? But I recognize not everyone shares that perspective.

People were alluding to the "Secret bonus" for fans that preorder.

Have to wait until it ships to find out!

It's entirely possible the secret bonus is a cellophane wrap around the vinyl/cd.

I'm another one of those people that won't pre-order it because it doesn't come with any pre-order "extras" (e.g., a bonus disc) and I don't want it on vinyl.

If I like it, I'll buy the CD after it comes out.

(Also, I listen to the live releases faaaaaaaar more frequently than their studio albums so I'm an atypical fan)

    100%

As a Smashing Pumpkins fan, I always elect to have a physical copy.

100%. I will wait to hear it rather than give a band a 4 month loan on a pre order. Also, will likely use any site that doesn't charge for S&H or shop local to support. No point in spending $40 on something that I can get for $20 when the extra 20 is just to "support" the band I suppose?

Jason Isbell announced the next 400 Unit album today, and I more excited about that that I currently am about WAtM.

That said, I'm sure enthusiasm will wane in a week or so and rebuild as the album gets closer, BUT I'm also more excited cuz I ain't heard a single note of the songs on that album.

Clearly bonuses don't work with Come Tomorrow, so no need for them here.

I mean, outside of DMB that is typical. I've never understood their "road testing" approach for basically 2/3 of all their new albums in the last 20 years. Every time we hear most of the new album before it's even released months or years in advance.

And then because it's a studio version we're supposed to be excited about. But the studio versions usually pale in comparison to what we hear live, because they play them live AFTER they record it. It makes no sense.

The initial idea for it in 2000 didn't work for Lillywhite Sessions, but for some reason the kept that approach since then. Minus Everyday and Stand Up.

I think the majority of people pre ordering this are probably vinyl users. If you don’t have a record player why buy it? That’s at the heart of all the nos here. Why else wouldn’t you buy it? $30, right? If you have a record player and you’re not buying the vinyl,

I do applaud the bravery from some of you.
This is my view, except I've never been into vinyl, so I've pre-ordered the CD, since I have every other studio CD they've released.

Bonus content would make me consider buying different versions or a more expensive package, but it has no bearing on whether or not I buy the album itself.

That said, while I have the preorder in on Amazon (b/c free shipping, and faster than from DMB), but I may cancel that and just go into a local store on May 19th and pick it up.

I'm also considering buying the digital download just to save myself the effort of actually ripping thr CD when I get it. Yes, I realize it's ridiculous when I'll be listening to the mp3s rather than the CDs anyway, but at least I'm not buying all the vinyls of the rainbow. I'm also not paying for any streaming services, otherwise that'd probably replace the download.

Re: How many folks pre-ordered WATM?

I pre-ordered the 180gram vinyl. Foolishly crossing my fingers that its not the exact same master as the CD/streaming files.

I also pre-ordered the 180g. I am a vinyl person, I like physical media, and I also just wanted the most "deluxe" version of the album that exists. I guess this time around that means printed lyrics and black and white pictures of the band But so be it. That's all for me though, I can't bring myself to buy the rainbow vinyls without any other incentives.
