I was iffy about Stay Young too, but I really turned around on it after seeing the Storytellers performance. Ben's little introduction is so natural and sincere you can really tell the song means a lot to him.

Almost all of their files are VBR V0. Occasionally they do a CBR. Never seen a 320.

I thought they cut IWFYITD from the broadcast, but they aired the show all out of order.

I think it's a bit more solid than narrow stairs. Not quite up to par with their older albums, but isn't that the complaint we have with most bands?

Did the singer used to be fat? Caught storytellers today and for some reason I always pictured him as fat.

Not fat really but he was a little pudgy. Hes lost a noticeable amount of weight since "plans" at least.

Pudgy enough to land Zooey deschanel

Ben Gibbard is cool as shit. Still liking the album. Anytime I like a band's album after they've been around for 10 years or so i'm shocked. nothing mindblowing but i think it's good. i put it on par with narrow stairs.

I like this album more and more. I definitely like it more than Narrow Stairs.

Edit: My only hangup right now is that it ends way too quickly. This seems like the perfect album for a hidden track.

I think it's got more strong tracks overall than narrow stairs but it doesn't have one song in the league of "cath...", "grapevine fires", "bixby canyon bridge", or any of the songs on the open door ep.

Next to trans and plans the open door ep is my favorite death cab release.

Does anyone have the DVD they put out a few years ago? I was thinking about getting it

The more I've listened, the more I like the new album. It's not better than narrow stairs but it's good.

Ben, like any songwriter, writes better when he's unhappy or at least feels chaos in his life. Married to Zooey deschanel I can't imagine he feels anything like that anymore. Just listen to trans and you hear a man near the brink of a nervous breakdown, someone that is unhappy with how his life and relationships have gone. Songs like lightness and expo 86 are the best examples, lyrically they read like a broken man caught up in his own thoughts and fears, desperate for something new. That's what makes it so popular I think, many people can relate to that.

Now in his lyrics he's just so happy. He still writes good songs but there's a reason his lyrics and the music as a whole has shifted themes over 4 albums.

Caught the tour opener in columbus last night. They had some technical difficulties because of how muggy and humid it was and ben kept throwing his guitar across the stage in frustration, but it really didn't effect the music. There weren't any feedback blowups or noticeable instruments cutting out in the middle of songs. Crowd was good, really hipstery as you can imagine but they keep to themselves at least. I had a fucking blast and highly recommend you try to catch them. Frightened Rabbit was a great opener too.

They really far exceeded my expectations. I love the shit out of their music but it jus doesn't sound like it would translate live. But man it really does, they play with so much emotion and it comes out in their performances. Not just ben either I'm talking about everyone. I never really appreciated Jason mcgerr until last night, he isn't flashy at all but he is a fantastic drummer.
