How is it MTVs fault that these kids are douchebags? By this logic UNICO should try to shut down Seaside's beaches and boardwalk.

It's not so much that - its more MTV's marketing for the show. "A show that exposes one of the tri-state's most misunderstood species ... the GUIDO."

Right, but MTV is using a derogatory term for Italians to market a show about Italians who happen to be "stereotypical."

I mean, why not make a show about a group of Chinese students that are all in math clubs and practice the cello at home, then market it as a "show about chinks". Or a show about a Jewish family that owns a store and likes to cut costs and save money, and market it as a "show about kikes." Or a show about black kids in a street gang...etc...you get the point.

As long as, in those hypothetical shows, you have one of the lead characters calling each other, in a non-derogatory manner, a chink or kike, go for it. If these kids are going to talk about their need to bring home guidos, or need to go out and represent the guidos, or be the main guido, or all of the other ways that they used guido... I have no problem with the voiceover guy saying it once.

Ehh. What about the group of black kids in a street gang then? I'm sure they'd use the word "nigger" in a non-derogatory manner. You'd then be fine with the (probably white) voiceover guy refering to them as niggers?

I'm sure the rest of the country wouldn't be fine with it.

Guido has shifted in terms of meaning over the past ten years. When you hear guido, you do not think "Italian," you think "douchebag." The Italian Amercan league should be upset that the Jersey guidos represent Italian Americans so poorly, not that MTV is documenting the douchebaggery.

someone mentioned some stuff about this show not airing orsomething earlier. I went to go set it up on my dvr for tomorrow night and in the thursday night 9pm slot it says "To Be Announced" I have Comcast here in chicago, it could just be a local issue for somereason

I remember when mtv had that college life show back, they had announced it for like three different premiere episodes and it kept on getting pushed back and eventually it finally began. I hope that doesnt happen with this show.

Also, when i checked to dvr it. they air a repeat of the premiere episode at 11pm. but guess what they're playing after that. MTV True Life: I have a summer share. the one from back in 03 with Tommy Cheeseballs. tomorrows gonna be a great night.

That show looks hilarious.

At the same time - I hate that people are so dense as to think that all of NJ is in any way like those morons, and that all of NJ is a shithole. I live in Northwestern NJ. It's beautiful. You should see where I got married. It's incredible.

I'd say "I know people are just being funny" - but with some people on ants...who I would guess have either never been to NJ or have only been to the shore, or just seen the youtube videos of "guidos" that have informed their opinions...well, I just wouldn't be surprised if they really believe that all 9 million residents of NJ are like those morons.

It's like saying

"Fuck Florida - it's only old Jews."
"Fuck New York - it's only Irish cops."
"Fuck Utah - it's only Mormons."
