I’m guessing this threads is full of connoisseurs and I’ll not one but I do like whiskey. So, I’m probably offend and might get ridiculed. I don’t like liquor neat tbh.

That said, I’ve been enjoying a strong mix of Kirkland Canadian whiskey, a splash of minute made peach punch and Diet Coke, and a lime tonight and it’s really good.

A mixer of fruit juice and Diet Coke I’ve really started to like lately.

Kirkland Canadian is basically Crown. It's decent enough. If you're mixing it just to mix it, go ahead. But if you're trying to explore whisky you're going the wrong direction.

What do you think of it?

I've had a few bottles - and they're relatively consistent, but they can have some variety as well. It's a young whisky, and I think it tastes a little immature, but it's a nice change of pace.

I've had the single barrel as well from them, and I'm not sure it warrants the price difference.

I was wondering where it came from, thanks.

I think the only time whisky folk get offended is when you mix something relatively good/expensive in their home

If you offer someone Blanton's and they ask for a Coke with it you might get an eyeroll and then I'll pull out the Evan Williams and say - yes...and here's this. (I like Evan Williams btw).

Heading to Tennessee tonight for half work/half vacation. Definitely going to the Jack Daniels distillery and probably Woodford for work. Anyone have suggestions on what else I should do?

I wouldn’t do that. I would try it the way my host served it for sure, then probably get a beer I brought

I’m not gonna lie, I mostly just like the feeling of two or three whiskeys in my belly. I like a Manhattan a lot, but a little splash of ginger has always been my go to. Just recently, and the point of my post, was a little of you favorite juice mixed in isn’t bad at all.

    Makes sense.

You an old fashion guy? That seems a good segue cocktail to drinking whisky neat/rocks. Well balanced and easy enough to make at home.

I was thinking about that and his fun it would be to mash the fruit!

Big Red Liquors in Indy had 20% off all American whiskey on Sunday. Picked up a bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit for $39. Loving it. I could have gone wild and bought a bunch of stuff, but I limited myself to two bottles!

Woodford is in Versailles, Kentucky. You're going there for work? Sweet!

Hopefully. I'm definitely going to Lynchburg. I hope to make it to Versailles for Woodford and Louisville for Michter's. Only allowing a couple days for work stuff though. I need a few days of down time to explore the Great Smokys and Nashville too. I've never been in the area. I'm excited.

    This place is awesome.

Might also suggest getting some fried chicken at Miss Mary Bobo's if they're open.

    I really like Stagg jr.

Tonight finished off 2015 AE cask and then a bit of macallan 12 which is of course amazing.

I'm back home and still slightly hungover from my Tennessee vacation. I highly recommend the Jack Daniels distillery tour for anyone in the area. It is well worth the $25 admission. We got in free because I work for one of Jack's major distributors but I would have gladly paid the fee. Incredibly informative tour with a detailed tasting at the end.

Also did a quick tasting at George Dickel. In most cases you have to take the tour there to do the tasting but, ya know.... connections.

Old Smoky Moonshine is my company's competition but we went to their presentations/tastings in Gatinburg and Pigeon Forge. Their whiskey is mostly shit but they make their tastings fun. They have a mango habanero whiskey that is an amazing marinade for shrimp.

I also drank my weight in Buffalo Trace even though I don't distribute them. It's just so tough to find in Arizona that I couldn't pass up the opportunity whenever I saw it.

All in all, great time. Great whiskey. Hopefully heading to Lexington to hit Woodford around Derby time next year.

Did their tasting once when I was in Gatlinburg. It's not real moonshine but I caught a decent buzz there just taking shots because they really didn't have a limit (or they never stopped me) it was a fun way to start our weekend in a cabin.
