Almost the correct answer! I'm a history teacher, so trying to do some cool Civil Rights sites down there in-between the Alabama and Mississippi shows before flying back home. It's quick in and out, but definitely a trip I've always wanted to make. If ya'll have places I have to see (like the Jefferson Davis house, for example) let me know. (You can even private me so as to keep us on topic here.) Thanks for the welcome! I still think Ants are my favorite people in the world.

And to add on (sorry for the double-post)... still looking at options after the show... do you go west or do you go north? I'm still thinking north, but Biloxi now has me intrigued too. So truly, any feedback is awesome.

I heard the Vicksburg military park is pretty cool but that's west

It really depends on what particular pieces of history you’re interested in. Depending on what kind of time you have take the Natchez trace to Vicksburg to visit the battle field. That would be the best bang for buck/time around Jackson. There is also the Eudora Welty house, medgar evers house, and the civil rights museum all in Jackson.

If you like the blues and the history that goes with it I’d recommend going to Clarksdale.

Memphis/Tupelo if you’re an Elvis fan.

Like I said it really just depends on what you’re really interested in seeing. There’s a thousand different things I’d recommend depending on where you want to go and how much time you have.

Medger Evers house would be good. Really fucking sad shit I would imagine. The blood stains are still there.

Swim, I haven't been, but isn't it in a pretty bad area in Jackson as far as crime?

**** Official Brandon,MS 2018 ****** hahaha. Not only do they return to Mississippi, but they hit my hometown for my 42nd show. I'll head down from Nashville with the fam, spend Memorial Day with my folks and siblings and then hit the concert. Maybe take my 70's folks to the show with us. I remember back in the day, swimming in the Marquette lakes. Glad to see them do something with this land. Gonna be a special night for us. My kids' first DMB show was June 2008 in Busch, St. Louis, MO. Ten years later, back where we were all born.

I think Flowood Is the best place to stay in the Jackson area. More to do in Flowood, then Brandon IMO. Just more restaurants to pick from and they can serve drinks in Flowood. I think flowood has nicer hotels too. It's just a little bit out of the way.

The first concert at the venue is tomorrow night. I went by the venue and it looks pretty nice. It's just in a somewhat odd location.

Primos is the first place I'm going to recommend to eat in the area. Good southern food. The catfish is really good and they have good sides. It's consistent.

Penns alos has good catfish but it's a less consitant. Sometimes it's been salty.

    Restaurant recommendation number 2

    The Pig & Pint

This is a pretty good BBQ place. It's located in proper Jackson. The pulled pork is great and so are the ribs. The sides here are good... the collard greens are amazing.

The only con is the parking. Not a whole lot of parking. And also it's a good many miles away from the venue.

It's about 6 1/2 hours. Thought it'd be fun to try a new place out. Now I just took a last minute vaca to Cali so I'm not sure I'll be able to take the time off. Sigh.

Anyone know much about the pit area at this venue? Is it small/crowded, or large enough for some chill room in the back?

I have never been inside the venue but I think what is the whole bottom section is a pit. I think they sometimes put chairs down but they aren't for dmb. I could be wrong tho

But I bet it's pretty close to Tuscaloosa if you have been to that venue before

Thanks for the information - I haven't been to Tuscaloosa. I know the shows I've been to at The Wharf have a large pit area with plenty of room to get out of the crowds and chill in the back if you want to. Just curious as to how this new venue will be. Thanks..

The weather is starting to concern me some. I’m ok with standing in the rain, but a tropical storm might be a little different. I’m sure those going to The Wharf feel the same.

Coming in from Louisiana—looks like just a depression to the east—if it gets sheared off like they say may not be a big deal. Trust me we know how to deal with weather down here lol. Wharf show may be tough though!

This is definitely going to get postponed. The storm is set to hit the Jackson area Tuesday afternoon. No way they don't call it. Only way it doesn't is if it does a huge shift when it hits landfall.

In all honesty, if they play in the rain I may sell my ticket. I've seen the band enough times to not have the desire to sit through 3 hours of pouring rain to hear Stand Up and That Girl Is You
