Re: In need of some golf tips...

snuck out during work on friday to play 9 at the local course near me. might be the last time i get out so it was nice to put a wrap on the season for me, which had its moments.

didnt keep score but i do know that i had 3 birdie opportunities and did not capitalize on any of them which was a bummer.

Had a conversation last night with the assistant pro at a local club.

They think the rollback will allow them to shut the 7200 yard tees down and save a lot of money on maintenance. I asked him if that meant they would reduce dues? He didn’t see the humor in that.

I’m honestly not sure what the rollback is going to so. The USGA already has every US Open for the next 30 years awarded. Are the marquee courses that concerned about being able to hold the Senior Am?

I think it will ultimately drive more people to private golf.

A lot of the top clubs around here strictly enforce pace of play and on holidays and weekends and force you to play from a tee box suited to your handicap.

The club by my house is offering $5500 per year with no equity to new members with an USGA handicap. That includes golf (not carts), pool, raquet sports, and the gym. Course is Not going to make the top 100, but it is well kept and well run. Just lacks young members. Our swim club + my public golf/range time isn’t much less than that. Not sure holding out for my spot at Maketewah makes sense at that price.

Need to research what equity vs non-equity membership really means. The by-laws are about 100 pages long.

Got the annual pass email from the muni we used to play.

$1300. No discount on carts. Place is not walkable.

Full rack rate on weekends before noon.

Most have 3 golfers to secure tee time.

    Discount on putt putt.

The first club I belonged to I was a non-equity member. The only difference was that I did not get to vote on issues when the whole club voted. It was well worth the savings.

The new only thing I see that I don’t like, is they can kick non-equity members out if they find a full supply of equity members. Sucks, but I totally get it.

I keep looking for something about imitation fees for non-equity members. All I find is that I have to pay the application fees. I’m sure I’ll be getting the full sell to upgrade to equity membership.

Bandon has plenty of tee times and cheap hotels next December. Booked 3 nights and rounds at Shorty’s, Pacific, Old Mac, and Sheep Ranch. for $760. Waitlisted for moving tee times forward to get some replay rounds in.

Weather could be shit, but it could always be shit. Probably going to make it an annual thing.

Wife got me a new bag for Christmas. I got her one, too.

Had to 14 way full length dividers thumbs up. I also purchased two dozen Maxfli Staright Fli for $30 and new head over for my Kirkland Scotty.

I have the wedges and putter. If they release a 3W I might fuck around and get the irons, driver, and 3W and have a full Kirkland bag

I bought a 48 pack of StraightFlis last week. They are absolute magic.

If you could buy the Kirkland irons unassembled they would be interesting. The 7 iron is 1” shorter than mine. They’re going to make people with the proper expectations and body very happy.

Banner December day yesterday. 75 and sunny. Finally played an afternoon round with the sunset as we finished. Had a chance to break 80, but lost my feel on the greens and bogied 16-18.

I’ve definitely started, in recent years, to over club especially from the rough (with good results) but man does it drive you crazy when you hit it on the screws and fly the green, especially into a hazard.

Usually short is safer for us high handicappers.

This is 100% true and why I have always hated the mindset of "ams aren't taking enough club!"

I believe I’m a pretty damn good iron player, but I’m going to miss the sweetie more often than not. Clubbing up and always aiming for the middle of the green is easily worth 5 shots per 18.

The other big mistake I notice is people using the total when whey should be using their carry.

My goal for the year is to actually practice full shots.

New range opened 5 minutes from my house. Top Tracer, lights, etc. No excuses.

Need to clean up the full wedges more than anything. Hit so many blocks in the second part of the year.

Rest of my game was pretty good and I was surprisingly on with my 52° and 56°. New bags are nice. We donated our old bags to the course for any kids showing promise in their First Tee program.

At the price point, I’m not sure I care.

Find yourself someone who works for Dicks and you can get them around $10 per dozen.

Shit is expansive. No shame in Maxfli and Kirkland stuff. The quote on my Titeliat irons without gapping the top and bottom of the bag is $1450 + tax. Definitely going to think long and hard about some cheaper options.

The new Callaway Max D is just silly. Haven’t made a real swing in weeks, and instantly had the tightest dispersion I have ever seen. Everything comes off high, straight, and fast.

Was about 15 yards shorter than my best strike with the Triple Diamon, but the accuracy is a no brained for most casual golfers.

Let’s say I want to get back into golf this season and I don’t want a shitty full box set, but don’t want to go hard and get into all the custom fittings, etc. What kind of cost am I looking at to put together a bag of new clubs?

Or I guess is it hard to find custom used clubs? Pretty sure I need 1/2” to an inch extra length shafts.

You're in Madison, right? Go check out the used clubs at Nevada Bob's. If you do a fitting they'll likely comp the cost if you purchase clubs after it.
