Re: **Official Running Thread**

im leaving my weekend free from running (bachlorette party) so i gotta get my 16 miler done before work this week. any tips? particularly for fueling. i don't really want to wait to digest food (usually i give myself an hour after a bowl of oats), i'd prefer to just roll out of bed and go. hoping i'll be OK if i just eat a gel at the start and then every 45 minutes

Finished just under 2:30 with my wife! Awesome experience to be able to do it together. It rained probably more than we would have liked, but the temps were great! We weren't trying for any specific time; we just wanted to stick side by side.

Such a fun day, awesome turnout of support from the city, and a great festive atmosphere! Maybe next year we'll move to the full!

1:06 for a 12k, pretty decent for a ten year old. Smashed mom who bonked pretty hard since it was so hot. Track season starts next week and I’m super excited to see what my daughters mile time will be.

I ended up not racing. I logged a ton of miles last week, including 11 on Saturday morning, the day of the race. So I just chilled out at home instead. Still hoping to find one more 5K or 10K this month to give it go.

Hasay did run faster in Boston 2017, but I think the article I read was clear to add the distinction of 'record eligible' since the Boston Marathon course (where Hasay ran her time) is not 'record eligible' due to the very direct point-to-point nature of the route. Same goes for Mutai's Boston 2011 time of 2:03:02 never being recognized as a WR as the Boston course is not 'record eligible'.

Regardless, very excited for both Sisson and Hasay in the coming years and to see what they can do on the marathon stage.

That is so cool! The weather this weekend was kind of all over the place, so great to hear you caught a good window for the run. My wife is running her first half in a couple weeks (I am not running it with her, cheering on instead). Very excited for her and just want her to have a positive experience.

I partially tore my hamstring sometime in August-October of last fall. Prior to that I was getting in 30-40 miles a week. Running 6-7 days a week. I basically shut down running from October until the end of April. Probably ran less than 30 miles in that time. I started lifting 5-6 days a week, a little spin, a little swimming, stairclimber, yoga. I ran 3 miles twice last week without pain, so I did a 5k on Saturday just to see where I was fitness wise. Ended up just over 25 minutes, which is about 3 minutes slower than I was doing them the past few years. I had minimal pain, so I'm happy about that. Getting old sucks.

Heading down to Portland for my 2nd 1/2 marathon of the year. Posted a 1:45 on the first one in January but shooting to pass my 1:41 PR for this one. Had some really good training up to this point capping it off last week. Fingers crossed..

Had a little setback in June when I went on a short bike ride. The seat was rubbing on the spot on my hamstring. This is never ending. Coming up on a year.

I love Portsmouth. Fun place to run. I love running out around New Castle and those islands to Wentworth-by-the-Sea.

Love Portsmouth! Used to travel there a lot for work. We would stay at the Hilton Garden Inn there in town, and I'd do some runs across the water to Kittery, ME.

Earth Eagle is a cool little brewery there, and Dubar Square has some of the best Himalayan/Nepalese food I've ever had

Same. They get pretty bands/musicians throughout the summer there too.

Yeah, I loved every time I traveled there (plus we'd fly into Boston and drive the rest of the way, so I'd always stop at Treehouse/Trilium). I miss going there

Sounds like a great race in a beautiful area. I have a mile race in early September and a 5K the day before the NYC Marathon. Sticking to my '10K and under' rule for this year and going good so far.

We just did a half marathon in Newport OR over the 4th which would best be classified as a legit trail run. Lots of single track and elevation. My oldest daughter and I loved it and slayed it. My mother visiting from Iowa (hint: it’s very flat there) and all the other people that didn’t review the course ahead of time clearly didn’t realize what they signed up for.

Youngest daughter and wife slayed the 10k course.

Got up and went for a run this morning before work. We're having a cold front move through and it's a perfect 73 outside. Sure beats running in the upper 90s when I get off work.

Been having left foot pain the last month+. First it started back left/side and it was pretty bad. I thought I had a stress fracture. Took it real easy for 3 weeks. Now I'm starting to increase my mileage again and now I have pain top/front/right part of the foot. I ran really well on Sunday after taking the week off but I had some pain yesterday (Monday is an off day). I was going to run this morning but I wanted to wait and see how it felt during the day today.

I'm happy that the pain moved to the front of my foot because I read that where the pain was before is a bad location for a stress fracture but now I'm worried I got another one in one of my metatarsals.

    Ugh!

It was so nice this morning. The difference between my run on Sunday morning and this morning was amazing.

That sucks to hear about your foot. Does there seem to be a certain distance you run when the foot hurts? Or does it hurt from the get go and you manage it? Also, are you altering your stride in any way when you run? Landing different on your left foot to avoid the original area of discomfort?

The fact that you even got out this weekend for a run is a win. It was fucking horrible both days. Nice work on hitting 20 miles for the week. Are you training for something?

It hurts more when I'm not running. Right now it's constant dull pain that gets sharper if I do specific movements like putting a lot of weight on my foot.

I had old shoes for the first foot problem but I got new shoes so I think it's just a usage injury.

    I'm not landing differently.

Hopefully the new shoes do the trick. Doesn't sound like a lot of fun right now.

The race went OK. I still set a PR but was still disappointed with the overall time. I had much stronger training times and it didn't translate come race time. It was a very stressful week with some job interviews and finding out we were expecting #2, so that could have taken my mind out of things. I decided not to run anymore 1/2s for the time and focus on getting as fit as possible for the Marine Corp Marathon in late October. Currently doing 12+ miles at sub 8 min, so I'm feeling ahead of the curve for it.

I'm getting back into it very slowly, currently like a hippopotamus running away from slaughter

    Ugh!

make sure your work shoes/weekend shoes have enough support. toe spacers and rolling out foot on a frozen water bottle daily might also help. how are your ankles, hips?

it's tough not to be disappointed when this happens. i had a sub 4 this may but was still disappointed with my overall time. it's hard when you have 18 weeks of hard training/sacrifices. but, every race is a learning experience and you're stronger/smarter from the outcome

i did marine corps last year! have you done it before? it's a great course, awesome energy. make sure you have the race morning logistics ironed out- i almost missed the start because of how long the shuttle lines were. should have gotten there much earlier than i did. ended up having to get a last-minute uber --> a mile walk/shuffle --> right into 26.2 race haha.
