I said all things being equal. Of course an undefeated conference champ of a power conference goes.
To expand further, an Indiana is always going to outrank an at-large bid, because they are in a power conference, in this case the Big 10.
While this is probably rightly so 8 times out of 10, this playoff system of 4 teams ensures that an undefeated Cinderella will never have a chance at the real dance. Power conferences come first.
In an 8 team playoff, the school that trounced everyone and was never tested beyond beating two #10-25 teams and beyond that cakewalked by 30+ every other game...that team at least has a chance to be exposed. As the system works now, they do not even get a chance.
