I'm going to chalk the playoff conspiracy posts up to the likely Wednesday night before Thanksgiving circumstances surrounding the postings.

I don't get all the pushback against an 8-team playoff. 4 obviously isn't cutting it, leaving too many worthy teams out. Power 5 conference champs + 2 at-large teams + Group of 5 mid-major highest ranked team (if within top 8, or another at large based on committee rankings. Saying 4 is the right number sounds pretty arbitrary at this point.

I don't see anyone defending Washington. Seems like we agree their resume is LOL. We need to remember this in 2-weeks when whoever is bitching if a PSU, OU, OkSt, Wiscy gets left out for Washington.

Everyone's fighting over Big 10 teams positioning, while Washington is just coasting in b/c their schedule is shit. That team shouldn't get a pass. They need to destroy WSU and CU to be worth something.

in the NFL, a 7-8-1 carolina team won the NFC South in 2014 and a 8-7-1 Green Bay team won the NFC North in 2013. carolina actually won their wild card round game vs arizona. did anybody really think they belonged there with teams like seattle, denver, and new england? no, but they won their division and earned the right to at least try to make something happen in the playoffs.

unless everything shifts towards four 16 team super conferences that completely separates itself from the other 64 FBS teams (which will take decades, if it ever happens), the playoff needs to go to 8 teams. 5 conference winners, top ranked group of 5 team, and 2 at large teams. wild card teams shouldn't be getting in the playoffs over conference champs. period. if a team is really that good, then why didn't they win their conference?

Yikes. When the Big 10 split into divisions initially, Ohio State & Michigan were put into separate divisions, and this could have happened to them as well. Was there a reason that the Big 12 didn't split into divisions?

If they only have 10 teams and a 9 conferenc schedule, you are playing everyone anyways, so divisions don't matter with regard to your schedule. I think the thinking was that a championship game between the top two teams would be a stronger data point than playoff contender from division A playing potentially bad team from division B

It would work out pretty well for them if Texas got good and you had the Red River Rivalry mid season and then the CCG rematch between the two at the end of the year.

There is 100% no chance whatsoever EVER that a 1-loss Wisconsin or Penn State team, all things being equal, would ever be placed ahead of an Ohio State or Michigan one-loss team, again, all things being equal. I'm only using the Big 10 here as an example, but people that don't believe this 100% are insanely naive. The only way that the Washington's of the world ever get a real shot is if this expands to 8 teams.

I was kind of high on Washington until I realized that a majority of the Pac-12 defenses suck balls.

I said all things being equal. Of course an undefeated conference champ of a power conference goes.

To expand further, an Indiana is always going to outrank an at-large bid, because they are in a power conference, in this case the Big 10.

While this is probably rightly so 8 times out of 10, this playoff system of 4 teams ensures that an undefeated Cinderella will never have a chance at the real dance. Power conferences come first.

In an 8 team playoff, the school that trounced everyone and was never tested beyond beating two #10-25 teams and beyond that cakewalked by 30+ every other game...that team at least has a chance to be exposed. As the system works now, they do not even get a chance.

Someone who isn't the first choice doesn't make it a bad hire. Tressel was like the 3rd or 4th choice when he was hired. That turned out pretty well. Even Saban wasn't the first choice of Alabama - remember RichRod?

Rich Rod was Alabama 's third choice. Saban was 1st. Spurrier was 2nd. Rich Rod was 3rd.

As much as it was played up in the media, and they did make him an offer, the upper boosters didn't want Rich Rod (and neither did I. Think he's a bad coach). I'm not sure they ever would have hired him.

The big roller boosters knew they had Saban. He had said before it was his dream job. It was just a matter of putting the numbers in place

So how could Alabama have made an offer to RichRod yet still say he was there 3rd choice?

Pete Carroll was like the 10th choice for USC.

Point is that sometimes the first choice isn't the right guy, and sometimes the 3rd or 4th choice is.
