Holy shit Mr. Belding at like 3 people

They seem to at this point be getting really heavy handed with all the death allusions this year. I mean this week alone we get Don opening up into an empty elevator shaft, Pete bothering to mention his life insurance policy even covers suicide after 2 years (well and all the life insurance talk at all), and then everyone in Megan's acting class lying down quietly on the stage, as if they'd all just been slaughtered or something.

and is it me or are they purposely receding Pete's hairline back with makeup this year? Even with the style there was back then of combing hair straight back, it seems like we're seeing much more of his forehead than usual.

Roger: And, I got to see that...

Fuck I love this show. Finally got a chance to watch last nights episode.

There is so much foreshadowing of death right now it's insane. I got chills during that eerie elevator shaft scene. Then the final scene with Tomorrow Never Knows was....god damn that was amazing. I love that Don abruptly stopped the song too. He hated it.

I read a hypothesis from a blogger a few weeks ago - he thought Pete was going to die. Jump out the window. Obviously it is just speculation and when I read it I wasnt convinced at all. But the evidence is piling up. Someone big is going to happen soon. Theres a build up to something, and its actually really unsettling. I really think Pete might be gone soon.

I love the little things too. Did anyone else notice Pete walking into SCDP drenched in rain, opening his office door, and seeing his umberella hanging on the coat rack?

Little things like that really tickle me.

I posted a link from Salon about a Pete/death theory in this thread a few pages back, too. But since then I think the show has been so heavy-handed with the Pete's death foreshadowing that something else huge is going to happen. It's not like Weiner to be so obvious, so I feel like we're just being set up to get ambushed out of left field. It's been such a subtle season in terms of big events that you know something is definitely waiting for us. I feel more anxious about this stretch of episodes to the finish than any before.

On the other hand... if Pete does kill himself, I don't think it'll be a jump. My theory is his trusty office shotgun will make an appearance.

It feels like the tension in a rubber band when you're stretching it and stretching it tighter and tighter. When that thing snaps, holy hell are things about to jump off.

It would make it more than just a nice nod to the long-time fans that it was in his box of shit when he was moving offices in the season opener.

I thought the same thing. In season 4 they had a cover/instrumental version of Do You Want to Know A Secret. During Tomorrow Never Knows I was like "oh man, they hit the big time"

    Irony!!

and we've had far too little Jared Harris now 2 weeks in a row. Unacceptable.

Ok, Beth, the wife that Pete had the affair with was the younger girl from Gilmore Girls. I thought that during the episode but wasn't sure at all. Nice.

Oh shit yea I forgot that line. Thanks.

Also, what is it with AMC not letting characters say "fuck" but writing it into the script anyway? It's happened once or twice in Mad Men (last night too) and a few times in Breaking Bad.

They assume they will get to say it on DVD/BRD and that that will be what lasts?

I thought that, but it was blatantly censored like it was last night when it was said on Breaking Bad watching on Netflix. I just think it's kind of weird. It's effective since it's used so infrequently (most notably in the few times it's used in Breaking Bad), but it makes me think about it so maybe not.

It distracted me, especially since Don pointed out that Ginsberg "used that language" or something like that.

Good stuff. I didn't even think about that when I heard it, but yeah that's quite the costly minute of television.

Lionsgate did just release The Hunger Games, so they can afford a Beatles song for Mad Men.

Pete is going to have some kind of freak out on everyone in the office or something. That is my prediction. It seems like this season is brilliantly putting together little clues here and there that are going to mean a whole lot by the end of the season. How many more episodes this season, anyone know?

I guess maybe with Pete it's having had the kid that's done him in? Just that, I don't know, after a rough start, it kinda seemed like in the middle seasons he was more back in a good and more healthy groove (& wasn't about cheating as much, for one thing, unless I'm forgetting something big) but now after Trudy's given birth it seems like he's totally coming apart at the seams again and can't find a lick of happiness in anything.

The first four seasons all had 13, so I imagine this will be the same.

Pete has no control of anything. He has little control in the office, despite being a partner.

He's not living in the city, and thus is at the control of the trains.

    His wife controls the house.

He got his ass kicked by Lane.

    The whole trading offices thing...

    He feels inadequate to Roger.

He's getting rebuffed by Howard's wife -- though it appears she's into it.

It's why he had that weird controlling moment with the hooker in the brothel. He needed to feel control.

Throw in the reference about owning a gun during the dinner party with Don, and his subdued freakout in the elevator with Don. Yep, he's going toward a crash.
