I think Buffalo Trace is underrated, probably b/c it's cheap. Stagg Jr. is great.

After making the rounds and trying many, many different bourbons, I always come back to Buffalo Trace. Can't beat it for the price, and I prefer it to many of the higher ones.

I'd also recommend Weller 12 or Eagle Rare

    BT is def underrated.

I would add one of my fav's, eagle rare to the list. Also 4 roses small batch and single barrel...barrel proof if you can find it.

Weller 12 is also a BT product isn't it?

I heard it's essentially very close, constitutionally, to Pappy - but without the hand selected nature of the casks. I don't know how true that is.

Sipping on Angel's Envy Finished Rye now...so friggin good.

Finally got a Stagg Jr. Fantastic stuff. Though I like the EH Taylor Barrel Proof and Four Roses LE 2014 better. I think the EH Taylor's are probably the most underrated whiskey's out there.

Also, I recently bought a bottle of Suntory Hibiki Harmony. This may be my favorite whisky right now...so perfect, elegant, balanced...like the Audrey Hepburn of whiskies. A week later I got a second bottle. If it's still in stock next week, I may get a third.

On the negative side, Lock Stock 13 year old rye and Nikka Takesura were both busts for me.

My Father-in-law just won a $1500 gift card to the national liquor store chain here...hoping that's enough reason for him to buy a silly expensive scotch for Christmas and I can get in on it.

I'm so jealous. Tell him to get a couple like $400-500 bottles. Perfect excuse

Also, if any of you guys are on Instagram, I started following @axisofwhisky, and it's great. Got a lot of good recs out of it. He posts a lot about expensive stuff which doesn't help me out too much haha, but I've got to a whiskey bar nearby a few times getting stuff I wouldn't have really picked before.

I think I got it for around $50 once at the place with the lowest prices. I'm sure there's places in like the West Village or around Wall St that bump it up, though.

Yea, I usually buy a bottle or two of something when I go home to PA.

Generally, any staple whiskey or more common 10-12 year old scotch is about $40-60 here. As soon as you start looking at 15 you're at $100+. Above that it pretty much jumps to like $250 into absurdity.

If I had $1500 to spend I could still get like 3-4 solid 18 year old single malts I think. I've seen good stuff for $350-500.

Been getting more and more into Bourbon over the past few years and must say I really like the Buffalo Trace products the best overall followed maybe by Willett.

Saw someone ask above if Weller is a BT product - yes it is. It's crazy how much stuff comes from BT:

    Buffalo Trace
    Eagle Rare
    All of the Wellers
    All of the Van Winkles
    All of the E.H. Taylors
    All of the BTAC
    Stagg Jr.
    Blanton's
    Elmer T. Lee
    Sazerac

With that lineup they pretty much have every base covered. My parents live in Louisville and on a trip back a couple months ago we visited BT. Cool tour and you get a free tasting of Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, their White Dog, and BT Bourbon Cream (like Bailey's but tastier).

BT is great but a touch sweet for my, Eagle Rare is amazing for the price. I have to say though, overall not much can top Blanton's. It's seriously the most well rounded Bourbon I've tried (though I've had some Four Roses Single Barrels that are up there too).

The most expensive bottle on my bar was $80 but I don't drink Scotch. I can't imagine spending $400 on a bottle unless it was Van Winkle.

The state of NC fixes our prices and it makes me so mad. Have a look: http://abc.nc.gov/Pricing/PriceList

Can't find what you want? You can ask permission for them to order it and you must buy a case. Yeah right, I just go to SC and buy what I want.

It only works so well because of the fun accent.

Made me want to pour some Monkey Shoulder though.

My go-to sipper is George Dickel Barrel Select. Great stuff. Usually about $40-$45 for a bottle.

Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye is a thing of beauty. @ $75 I'd be tickled pink. The fact that it is less than $30 is just fucking ridiculous. GO GET SOME.

Picked up a bottle of Edradour 8 y/o single cask the other day.

It's pretty remarkable. It's bottled at 60% ABV (cask strength) and is finished in sauternes casks. It was pretty expensive for an 8 y/o, but it was pretty rare 266 bottles from this batch, so I bought it.

Edradour is a great distillery (smallest in Scotland) worth checking out if you're after something new. They're traditional 10 year old bottling is affordable and quite solid.

I visited Edradour in 1988, Pitlochry is a beautiful region and was one of the stops on a coach tour of the highlands we did up to Inverness. I was only 14 at the time and didn't get to try more than a sniff and sip, but have since picked up the occasional bottle.

Awesome - I want to go to Scotland for my 30th and hit some of my favorite distilleries. I have a few years to save up.
