Do not go out too quick, try and not to get caught in the moment and channel your inner Usain Bolt, only to run out of gas after the first mile. Start out slow. A good way to check pace, you should be able to talk, comfortably, to the person next to you while running. As the race moves on, see how you feel and adjust, either slower or faster, accordingly.

But above all else, have fun and good luck. Report back after the race, we all love a good running story.

I survived. I ran it in a little over 31 minutes. It felt awesome. Jogged the enitre time except for a minute where I had to power walk. Might start doing these tbh.

    TAKE CARE OF YOUR SHOES!

But seriously, get some good shoes and ease yourself into increases. Injuries are a bitch.

Great to hear, as suggested take it slow and have fun, it's obviously good for you and gets easier the more you do it and more consistent you are!

Thanks for the update and awesome to hear. Get that next race on the calendar so you have something to work towards.

    I did the following:

1 tablespoon each of 70% choc chips, coconut oil, and unsweetened almond butter mixed up with a scoop of MCT powder and a pack of Starbucks Via. Separated that into 3 little pouches I made on my vacuum sealer

Also started the race with 1/2 packet of Keto/OS Max that I drank over the first 5 miles.

I'm sure you'll do fine!! I like capris at that temp - but if you like to be cooler, then shorts. Just wear old sweatpants to the start so you can stay warm before you start.

I follow the rule of thumb to look at what the temps will be at your projected finish in deciding on what to wear. That way you don't over dress if the temps increase during the race. As Cside mentioned, and I am sure you done in the past, just bring/wear throw away clothes for the corral to stay warm.

Best of luck next Sunday. Looking forward to the race report.

    Go Laura!

Just take it easy and you should be good, that is definitely shorts weather for me with the temp getting into the 50's. As pointed out in the other post just make sure you are warm at the start.

If you are on a standard carb heavy diet, I'd recommend transitioning to a low carb diet like this one for a couple weeks before going full on keto.

As for keto resources, I found the following book and podcasts very helpful.

Is walking long distances a good build up to jogging? I currently walk about 10-15 miles in an average day. I've been feeling better since starting to do it.

I think so! It's a great start! Just make sure you've got good shoes if your going to start running. I'd recommend getting fitted at a running store. I learned this one the hard way and it led to some painful injury. Good luck!

NYC Half done and in the books. Such a great race and fun day. No time to waste though, back to training this week for the full next month.

Laura, how did Shamrock go? Did you find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Or at least at the finish line?

I have been using my Garmin Forerunner 230 for several months now and always felt it's times were off. Today during my run I turned MapMyRun app on to see how the times compared and mapMyRun was always a faster time. It also lined up more with my average mile times. Has anyone ever had similar issues and what do you recommend to get my Garmin more on track?

Put together two consecutive successful runs. Been working on slow recovery, running style and leg strength. If I can maintain through maybe Wed/Thurs I'm going to sign up for my first race! Only a 5K but considering a year ago I had a fractured ankle I'm very excited!

Thanks! I've been trying to determine what kind of running style I have and if I'm landing properly. I was trying to gauge that on the treadmill yesterday. It looks like I'm doing a mid foot strike. I tried a heel strike and it hurt like crazy so I abandon that. The toe strike was really hard for me to do and threw me off more than it did good. I'm going to count my steps next time to ensure I'm hitting the 180 per minute to see about working on that.
