Re: what happened to Boyd? he's been MIA for a while
I'm not gonna give Boyd a pass on his off the field behavior but he was a showman while with DMB.
As far as his skill...was he on par with the rest of the band as far as their technical abilities, probably not. My wife, who plays like 10 instruments including being first chair violin in orchestras and quartets all of her life, was always impressed by him though.
Dude was running around a stage playing violin. She just doesn't understand how he can do that and as a result he may not hear himself well or get a clean stroke with his bow. She also can't imagine improving so much on violin. It's not meant for that. It's meant to play sheet music.
What I am saying is, violin is hard. You don't hit those strings exactly right it Skreeeeeees. You are in an uncontrolled climate it can sound off.
Sure, maybe he shouldn't have taken his role in this band for granted and continued to practice and get better but he was always good for a creative melody and was willing to try things. I think everyone needs to lay off the guy while he is down. Righteous keyboard warriors.
It's okay to try and separate his personal life from what he did on stage. You look at any person, especially an artist, up close you are gonna see the warts. Some may have more than others but we all have them. They create these amazing things by using their struggles and emotions. Dude has issues and needs to be better. Professionally and privately.
