Anyone else round the change up to the nearest dollar when tipping? I like seeing even numbers on my CC bill for some weird fuckin reason so I’ll frequently go:

    AMT: $34.38
    TIP: $7.62
    TOTAL: $42.00

I don't do this, but I have thought about getting whatever app it is that rounds all your transactions up to the nearest dollar and invests it.

Nope. So many other things you can't control the total of, don't see the point.

My parents used to always want to get their gas to an even amount. Maybe that was a remnant of the days of balancing checkbooks.

I have this and I like it. It's called Acorns. (There may be others that are similar too.) . Just started using it a few months ago but the 'round ups' really add up quick. It rounds up every transaction on your designated card(s) to the next dollar. Each time you hit $5 in round ups, it invests that $5 into your account.

Only because when I was a good server, I always remembered this situation...but I used to tip amounts that were totally random. Not a set amount (like $7), not a set percentage, and not trying to even the total bill out, like you do. So using your example I would do something like:

    Amt: $34.38
    Tip: $7.74
    Total: $42.12

No. I assume the company pays them a wage. But if I ask them to do something extra on the fly, I would absolutely tip.

no. they don't work for a company so they're already setting their own price.

Love living in a place where tipping isn't a thing. Just got my food delivered, price was the price (tax included), no tip. No need to calculate price, tax and tip. Was weird being in America last few weeks. Some coffee place had a screen for me to click what percentage I wanted to tip. Umm, none. You made me a black coffee. Fuckin weird.

Do you tip if a delivery fee is included? They say the fee is not a tip....I’m not sure I’m buying that.

The company is pocketing that cash, not the driver, I assume.

I always leave an extra tip after delivery fee, but if its something ridiculous like more than $5, the tip gets cut some.

I was unaware that not tipping the house cleaner was a thing.

Also, def tip delivery drivers, even if there’s a fee.

Delivery fees are dumb. It's the cost of doing business, bake it into the price of your food.

    edit: People tip house cleaners???

If the delivery fee is more than $5 I usually find somewhere else, or I go pick it up. Was trying to Grubhub a bagel sandwich and a coffee one morning, and with delivery fee and tip on Grubhub, it came to $22.

    It really is dumb.

If a couple things I order end up costing me $3 more dollars or so as a listed price, im much more likely to still order than if a see a $10 delivery charge.

Not everyone gets food delivered, so it's a separate charge. If I'm willing to pick up food myself, I don't want the delivery baked in so to speak.

Yeah, everyone I know always has. Just learning now that some people don't.

Yeah if it gets above $5 I just look elsewhere. Sometimes if youre ordering with a group you can ignore it but its always kind of baffling to me, you know youre turning away business with it that high.

But that's how much it costs to run something like a grubhub or Uber eats. It's not just one restaurant, it's a lot of restaurants. The app, the mainntenance, etc...It all costs money.

When I used to deliver pizzas in HS, we had a $1 or $2 delivery fee depending on how far away you lived. That was $20 years ago for one restaurant and no app. To think a delivery fee should be less now seems very counterintuitive.

Not regularly (i.e. not every week they are here), but I do give them extra cash probably quarterly.

I don't know how much they make out of what I pay, and I assume it probably isn't that much, so I like to give them a little extra cash directly. Plus, they do a really, really good job and they're the first set we've had that has yet to slack off (I've been using some sort of cleaning service since my 1st child was born and I've found every single one eventually starts to decline / slack - but not these 2 & they almost always go above what I expect).

Yea she does a great job but she’s also her only employee lol

I never thought of it but I saw reviews and people said they tipped their house cleaner so after she left this morning I started wondering if I should be or not.

Not everyone gets food delivered, so it's a separate charge. If I'm willing to pick up food myself, I don't want the delivery baked in so to speak.

Yeah, everyone I know always has. Just learning now that some people don't.
    Its just business.

If i eat in, I don't pay more because my table needs to get bussed, or wear and tear on the tables/chairs compared to someone getting curbside takeway.

When I used to deliver pizzas in HS, we had a $1 or $2 delivery fee depending on how far away you lived. That was $20 years ago for one restaurant and no app. To think a delivery fee should be less now seems very counterintuitive.
up to $5 is one thing. Some places charge $10-$20, it varies per restaurant, they are pocketing that cash, its not the cost to operate the app.

it is strange in that clearly they made the decision to be on the delivery app, but then price themselves essentially out of it
